The night felt colder than usual. Anaya sat by the window, her hands gently resting on her belly as she stared at the moonlit sky. The nursery was quiet, filled with the soft scent of lavender from the diffuser Maan had set up earlier. He said it would help her sleep better, but sleep was the last thing on her mind.

She had made her decision. She was going to keep their baby.

The thought of it should have brought her peace, but instead, it filled her with fear.

She heard the door creak open, and Maan’s presence filled the room. He had been watching her closely these past few days, refusing to leave her alone for too long, as if afraid she would disappear if he blinked.

"You're awake," he murmured, his voice low, cautious.

Anaya turned to look at him, offering a small smile. "Couldn't sleep."

Maan sighed and walked toward her, kneeling beside her chair. He took her hand in his, pressing a gentle kiss to her knuckles. "Anaya… I know you’ve made your decision, but I—" He swallowed hard, struggling to keep his emotions in check. "I’m scared."

She cupped his face, her fingers brushing over the rough stubble on his jaw. "Me too."

Maan exhaled sharply and rested his forehead against her knee. "I don’t know how to be okay with this. The thought of losing you… it kills me inside."

Anaya closed her eyes, feeling the sting of tears. "We don’t know what will happen, Maan. But right now, we have this. You, me, and our baby. And I need us to hold onto that."

Maan lifted his head, his dark eyes filled with raw emotion. "Then let me take care of you. Let me be strong for you."

She nodded, and he pressed a lingering kiss to her palm before helping her stand. "Come to bed," he said softly. "You need rest."

She let him lead her back to their room, and as she settled into his embrace, she whispered, "Stay close."

"Always," he promised.

The next morning, Anaya woke to the scent of freshly brewed tea. Maan had placed a tray beside her on the nightstand—toast, fruits, and the herbal tea the doctor recommended.

She smiled, shaking her head. "You’re spoiling me."

Maan sat beside her, handing her a slice of toast. "It’s my job."

She took a bite, feeling warmth spread through her chest. "I love you, Maan."

His eyes softened. "I love you more."

There was a brief silence before Maan hesitantly asked, "Can we talk about treatment?"

Anaya set down her tea. "I know we have to. But Maan… I'm scared."

Maan reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers. "We’ll take it one step at a time. There are specialists we can consult. Maybe… maybe there’s a way to treat this without harming the baby."

Anaya let out a shaky breath. "I hope so."

Maan kissed her forehead. "We’ll find a way, Anaya. Together."

That afternoon, Maan drove Anaya to the hospital for another check-up. The car ride was silent, but his grip on her hand never loosened.
