AUTHOR'S POV -
.....
Maan sat in the waiting room, elbows on his knees, hands clasped together as he stared at the floor. The rain had stopped outside, but the storm inside him hadn't. His mind replayed every moment—Anaya's distant silence, her fragile body trembling in his arms, the way she had collapsed so suddenly.
He didn't even realize someone had sat beside him until a hand rested on his shoulder.
"Bhai.."
( brother)
Maan looked up, his friend [ Raj] worried eyes meeting his. He hadn't even noticed when he arrived.
"Kya bola doctor ne?" He asked softly.
[ what did the doctor said ? ]
Maan swallowed hard. "Woh... they're running more tests. They need to operate soon."
He sighed , his fingers tightening around his. "She'll be okay,Abhimaan She's strong."
Maan let out a shaky breath. "She didn't tell me how bad it was. She was so scared, raj .. and I didn't see it soon enough."
He cupped his face gently. "You're here now. That's what matters."
Before he could respond, the doctor emerged from the operating room, his expression grave. Maan stood up so fast his chair scraped against the floor.
"Doctor?" His voice was barely steady.
The doctor exhaled, glancing at the clipboard in his hands. "We've stabilized her for now, but the situation is critical. The tumor is pressing against vital areas, and with her pregnancy, things are complicated."
Maan's chest tightened. "What do you mean?"
The doctor hesitated before speaking. "The operation is risky. The safest option would be to terminate the pregnancy before surgery, to increase her chances of survival."
Maan felt like the ground had been ripped from beneath him. His mind refused to process the words.
"You're saying... we have to choose?" His voice broke.
The doctor nodded grimly. "Yes. If we delay the operation to save the baby, Anaya's condition could worsen beyond repair. If we operate now, the chances of saving the baby are very low."
Maan's world shattered.
But he composed himself and without any thought he said "SAVE HER , JUST SAVE ANAYA ."
---
It had been a week since the operation.
Anaya was alive. But something inside her had died.
She sat by the window, staring blankly at the gray sky outside. The rain had started again, drizzling softly against the glass. Her hands rested in her lap, cold and unmoving. She hadn't spoken much since she woke up—just nods, small gestures, and silence. A silence that stretched between them like an unspoken storm.
Maan watched her from the doorway, his heart aching. He had fought so hard to keep her here, to make sure she lived. But now, seeing her like this, he wondered if she blamed him. If she hated him for choosing her over the baby.
"Anaya," he called softly, stepping inside. She didn't turn, didn't even blink. He placed a tray of food on the table beside her, but she didn't reach for it.
