I was already outside when Quincy pulled up, his music playing low as I climbed into the passenger seat. He barely looked at me, just gave a little nod before pulling off.
"You good?" I asked, side-eyeing the way he tapped his fingers against the wheel. "Yeah," he muttered. "Just ready to get out of this uniform." I chuckled.
"Yeah, yeah, I get it. You wanna be comfy while we talk about whatever's got you stressed out." He didn't say anything to that, just kept driving.
I let the music fill the silence, but something about his whole vibe felt off. I didn't push, though. Quincy would talk when he was ready.
When we got to his place, he disappeared into his room to change while I made myself comfortable on his beanbag chair.
He came back in sweats and a hoodie, finally exhaling like he could actually breathe now.
"Alright, spill. What's up?" I nudged him. "Alright well I met this girl a while back at the mall," He starts. Ohh so this is over a girl?
"She's mad funny and cool, so I'm thinking alright we could be good friends. As we kept talking she kept throwing hints but I brushed it off because I'm assuming she's joking. All shawty do is play around so come to find out she wasn't. Now she's making it clear that she wants more." He finishes while handing me some sweats and plain white tee.
"Okay.. so do you like her? Could you possibly see it moving forward or do you wanna just keep her as a friend?" I'm used to helping Myles out with his girl problems.
So I know what to say but then again this is just regular shit. So I'm thinking of this as girl talk.
"I was thinking maybe I could like her back but..." He pauses. "But what?" I raised an eyebrow. "It just don't feel right." He admits.
Huh?
"Like she's cool and I should like her cause the vibes are there. It's just something is off and I feel bad. It's like I know she's expecting something from me that I don't think I can give her. Or maybe I'm. just not ready to give?" He questions himself.
I watched him closely, I could see how confuzzled he's reacting. This can't just be about some girl, it's def deeper than that.
"Q.. you don't have to force yourself to do anything just because it makes sense. If it don't feel right then it's not gonna feel right. Don't force something on yourself if you know you're not gonna give the best outcome." I tell him honestly.
He just sighed shaking his head. "But what if I'm overthinking? What if I push this girl away for no reason?" He's staring at the ceiling now.
"Or what if your gut is telling you something you're not ready to admit?" He glances at me but looks back at the ceiling.
"Ion know, I just don't wanna mess things up." He mutters to me. "You won't. Just be real with yourself, that's all you can do." He listens but doesn't really have much to say.
I head to him and nudge him. "Hey and if all else fails, just fake your death and move to another country. Problem solved!" He ends up chuckling.
There's that smile I've been waiting to see. "You're ridiculous" He says smiling at me. "But did I lie?" Hey he knows I'm not.
"Girl go change so we can start some homework." I laugh and head to the bathroom. The tension eased but that conversation stayed with me.
Quincy is definitely still holding something back. No way this conversation could only be about her.
Cause why wouldn't you pursue someone who's giving you the green light? Unless there's someone else in mind.. Hm.
