Chapter 20: To Ashes and Blood

"Ah, Salome's cinnamon cakes are so great." Ingrid grins with some dust of food on her mouth. Azrael rolled his eyes, but they remained affectionate with a hint of humor. Ingrid wipes her mouth while they were walking back to the palace of Nahum where Nayeli and others were waiting for them. 

Azrael had his hands on the pockets of his coat while his height was towered Ingrid, especially when Ingrid is a Northerner and Northerners known to be relatively tall. But this was due because Azrael was an angel. Ingrid was roughly five over ten-foot while Azrael is arguably six over four foot tall. 

Ingrid carried bag that hold the cinnamon cakes, similar how Nayeli brought a bag of Turkish Delights. Azrael looks at her and shook his head. "Nayeli did inherited some of your personality, it's still surprises me that she hasn't inherited your unpredictable side." Azrael says, making Ingrid looks at him, make a face to him. 

"Hey, you also raised her too. She shares the same sarcastic humor as you, she did roast couple of idiots." Ingrid points out, giving him a silly smile. The Angel of Death chuckled by her claim and saying that Nayeli did inherit some of their not so pleasant qualities while they raised her when she was an infant. 

A very unlikely pair who were chosen to raise a young girl into the world fill with magic and wonder but also, there were dangers too. 

Ingrid looks forward with her small smile on her face. "But either way, Nayeli turned out well. Even that dragon boy turned out okay thanks to the Dragon King and his kids. I still wonder what she did saw when she went between worlds? You think it might be similar like last time?" Ingrid asked, turning her head to her partner. Azrael soon went into a deep thought, and he understood how it works since many of his people and different rank of angels can travel into different worlds. 

The time when he went to different alternate versions of Sonic where he died by Mephiles due to the Forgotten Timeline and Shadow's variants too. Azrael was very attentive and dutiful when it comes down to his work, and he always make sure.

He even took Ingrid into another world because his old acquaintance asks him for a favor to help his daughter with the new war between Rulers, New Monarchs, and Hunter against the Immortals with their superior complex and their servants.

"I don't know, Ingrid. I mean Chaos and Sol Emeralds are somehow different from your labrys and my abilities. I don't know what she saw but I do know it got something to do with the two hedgehogs." Azrael said, refers to Sonic and Shadow. He knew it since the way Nayeli was avoiding not to look at them for some reason. 

It wasn't because she saw something horrible but rather because she didn't want to tell them for something that could embarrasses them. They knew Nayeli well because they raised her. 

Ingrid thinks about it before she gives a mischievous smile and looks at Azrael. "So, do you think once go to their world, do you want go to Hot Topic?" Ingrid's tone became playful and mischievous, getting Azrael to look at her with a porker face and his eyes were distant.   

"You are seriously asking me, the Archangel of Death and one of the most dangerous archangels to go with you to that edgy and gothic store?" He asked serious and stern, looking like he didn't believe her what she said. 

Ingrid kept her smile, didn't look offend by his words. "Yes." She answered with no fear. Azrael's mood soon changed, he leans closer to Ingrid, and he look rather bashful about it. "Okay, I just hope they don't have shirts with the skeletons or even the demons. I seriously get annoyed when I see it." Azrael says, looking away in disbelief while Ingrid laughs and pats his back.
