Chapter 8: Instinct

Stuck in a void of darkness. I could feel my surroundings. The soft, springy mattress below me. The warm blanket that covered me. But something even warmer came from my side. A big mass of heat on my side that also stretched over my chest and down my leg. It wasn't just heat though, it had weight, a presence that made me feel all tingly inside.

Thinking back to last night, I can remember what this presence is. I regain my sense of sight and look to my side. To my pleasure, I saw the cutest boy in the whole world clinging to me. My Azul.

Sharing a bed like this with him really brought me closer to him. Literally and figuratively. It was amazing to feel each other in such a vulnerable situation as sleep. A time where my guard is completely down, and knowing he's trusting me with the same thing.

I would've never imagined how good having a real, living, breathing partner would be until I had one. Just that feeling of having another person here with me is something special all on its own. It's so nice to feel each other's warmth, each other's weight, to feel each other's heartbeats. The feeling can't be described with words alone.

I would hate to wake him up when he looks so adorable. Sadly I have too, due to the decision we have to make. I still want to talk with him about what we're going to do.

On one hand I get to actively pursue my dream, and on the other I get to snuggle up with him everyday and night. Which now is sounding more and more appealing every second I spend with him.

I need his opinion on this. Sadly I have to commit the atrocity of disturbing his beauty sleep to get it. "Hey Azul, wake up." I said faintly with a gentle nudge.

After a few more trial and error of nudges, I felt his body start to shift. "It's time to get up." I softly told him.

I watched as his dimmed visor started to regain its luminosity. He moved around for a few seconds before sitting up on the bed with me.

He had a groggy look on his face and the fur on his head was totally messed up. He had one ear up and the other one down. Which made him look even more adorable.

"Good morning sleepyhead." I said with a light chuckle.

"Good morning." He replied, still very tired.

"How'd you sleep?" I asked with a loving undertone.

"Amazing." He said with a faint smile on his face. Still masked by his sleepiness. He thrusted his arms up into the air for a long stretch. Letting out a quiet groan as he did. "That was the best sleep I had in forever. Maybe even the best ever."

"I'm glad to hear that." I comforted, grabbing his hand. "Sooo, there is something we have to talk about."

He let out a sigh, "Yeah I know..." He pouted.

"I know, I know. It's a big decision, but that's why we need to make it together." I reassured him.

"Like I said yesterday; I'm okay with whatever you decide." He sweetly reminded me.

"I still want to know your input on this. As partners, we have to start making decisions together now. The best for both of us." I informed him

Azul let out a soft scoff, "Why do you always have to be right." He playfully retorted.
