In my dreams
I can fly
I can soar above the world
With powerful wings on my back
They carry me far away
I can escape from here
Hide away from all my fears
Pretend I am somebody
I am not
Maybe the world would speak my name
If they saw that I could fly
History would remember me
The children would know
I was The Savior
The Beautiful
The Angel in the sky
The guardian, the warrior
Explorer of far-away galaxies
And places unheard of by man
Protector of the innocent
Defender of the pure and good
Loved and honoured
By all who live
Revered and envied
By those who died
Beautiful poems and stories
They would sing my name in Heaven
And speak it in whispers on Earth
Gliding above the clouds
Drops and spins and whirls
That leave me dizzy and laughing
Dives, exhilarating and free
Catching the air under my wings
Just before I hit the ground
I can fly, in my dreams
And I am never scared, never alone
It is such a nice thing
To be loved
But most angels don't fear the dark
And most angels don't hide scars
My eyes snap open, my heart is racing
I can feel the wind on my face
And rustling through my feathers
But there are no wings on my back
And nobody knows my name
I am invisible again
My fears are hiding just under my bed
Waiting to spring upon me
And tear me to pieces
There are no stories or songs
History will forget me when I die
I can't escape
And I cannot fly
There are no galaxies to explore
There is no stop
Before I hit the ground
Perhaps I wouldn't be so empty
If I could fly
I want to loop and spin and whirl
Until I'm dizzy and laughing
I want to soar above the clouds
Above the rain
I want to leave my stomach
On the ground
Let my heart and pulse go wild
Drop through the air like a stone
Feel the wind in my hair
Finally free and finally flying
There are no wings this time
I dream, but there are no wings
Nothing to catch me this time
Angels belong in heaven
I'll close my eyes
And drink in the air
Greet Death
With open arms
He comes with a smile
As everything you've ever wanted
And everything you've ever feared
I fall to his embrace
Let him set me free
I let him take me home
And give me wings
So I can fly
