The walk back to the hide out after leaving curl up and dye was short and quiet especially after Holly left. Her sister leaving made Mal nervous, not for Holly no, she could hold her own exceptionally well. She was nervous for Evie and herself. Walking with Holly kept them safe and now she was gone, even when she was angry at her Holly had made sure she was safe. She would never let harm befall her siblings; it was just the way Holly is.

The more she thought about it, the more she realizes Holly wasn't unmovable not really. She had definitely changed, that was not up for debate, but it was hardly much of a switch for her Holly had always been good to those she cared for. She had always been good to others period; she just hid it better when they were younger. She gave kids who had no place a home in the Hades house, she gave them a family in the form of their gang or Harrys crew, she could keep them safe so long as they were in her territory.

Holly was still doing all of that in Auradon, on top of trying to kick start the relocation movement, she helped the Auradonian kids. If there was a child with no home, she did her best to find them one, if someone was having trouble in school, she helped them the best she could or she had someone help them, she made it easier for kids to speak up about stress and anxiety.

Holly was just a good person.

Mal wasn't.

Mal was never good, in any sense of the word. She hated people, it didn't matter if they were in her gang or not, she was mean to them. She hurt people, she was loud and abrasive, she as disruptive and found joy in pain. She had always been like that. looking back she could tell holly didn't like when she hurt people, but she remembered loving the feeling.

Even now she wasn't really good, while Holly was falling perfectly into her role as future queen of Auradon helping the people just because she could, Mal was only focused on herself just like she had always been. She was so worried about remembering all her meetings, remembering when she had paperwork, remembering that she had homework all the while really wanting to split open Audreys head for some of the things she was saying about her sister and trying not to act on it.

She envied Holly for being more in touch with their divinity, she didn't need to sleep as much, her memory was better, and using her magic didn't trier her out. Then she felt bad for her envy, Holly didn't ask to be this way, neither of them asked for the hand they were delt. She hated her father but longed for the power that came from his DNA. She hated every part of her that was a reminder of him, but she would live with it if it would have made any of this a little easier.

Would it have helped though or would it have made her even more rotten.

Holly was switching from inwardly good to outwardly good. Mal really was switching from evil to good.

All for Hayden.

Everything she was doing was for Hayden. The decision to stay in Auradon may have come with the thought of keeping her friends and family safe but everything else all the meetings, events, homework, lunches, dealing with the press, it was all for Hayden. She had never done so much for anyone else not even her brother and sister.

Then she ruined it in one afternoon. All she had to do was speak to him, be honest with him, and instead she lied to him, tried to manipulate him and ran. He ran after her tried to make things better and she turned him away. He came here to get her and got captured in the process.

She was the problem, she knew that and now she was willing to admit it.

She sat at the small table in the hide our rubbing her hands together, she had forgotten how cold it was on the island. The boys were still in Auradon and Holly had gone to see her father. With their part done all Evie and Mal could do was wait. Her eyes stayed trained on the entrance. Holly was coming back first, she knew it. When they were growing up Holly always made it a point to meet up at least thirty minutes before a big gang fight, just in case one of them got bumped off. "Mal?" Evie asked handing her and apple from the kitchen apparently Ginny was practically living here since the Hades house got raided. She took it with a tense smiled and went back to watching the entrance. "Are you just gonna watch the entrance until she comes back?"
