When asked what she could do Holly told Celia she could go back to the Lost Revenge and pretend she was visiting her sister so that she could make sure Hayden was unharmed. Holly would raise hell if Hayden was physically hurt in any way shape or form. Ginny had asked if she could go with the boy back to Auradon, she said she just wanted to get a taste of freedom. Ben assured her that as soon as everything was sorted out, she would join all of them over the bridge but if she wanted to see Auradon now he was more than happy to bring her back with them. So, Ginny left in the limo and Celia was back on Uma's ship.
That left Holly, Evie and Mal to walk to Curl up and dye alone.
The walk was awkward to say the least. Mal kept her head down and stayed quite the whole way. She was thinking about everything Holly had said to her. She was the reason Hadie was incapacitated right now; she was the reason Hayden had been captured. She had used Hadie's powers several times to compensate for her own and he had over done it for her, she had lied to Hayden, tried to spell him, and ran away without explaining why she had the spell memorized. She had made it worse for herself by running.
She also noticed the difference in the atmosphere, when she was walking here earlier, she needed Ginny at her side to make sure she wasn't ambushed. Holly being there seemed to breath hope into everyone they passed. Some of the younger kids who had tried to pick pocket Mal exclaimed in joy claiming they knew she would come back and how excited they were to join her over the bridge. Holly had stop to talk with a few people even kneeling down to the little kids and explained in very simple terms why things were taking so long. She had fallen right back into the role she had before they left but there was something more regal about her now. She wasn't just a gang leader anymore and she wasn't just playing princess, no. In face she was actively acting and becoming a Queen right before their very eyes.
It was a subtle change, but it was noticeable if you knew her the way Mal did. That crazed spark in her eyes was gone replaced with something kinder. The smirk that used to tug at her lips had changed into a genuine smile. She spoke softly even her tone having been healed; she no longer had a raspy voice that one would expect a long dead corpse to have. It was soft and melodic now, like that you heard of Goddesses having.
Slowly but surely, Holly was changing, something that was incredibly hard for those with ichor from that ruthless princess of the underworld to the kind gentle Queen of Auradon that she was always meant to be.
Deep down Mal was jealous.
How? How had Had Holly the least changeable of the two been able to do a complete 180 yet mal only seemed to get worse as time went on.
She was a bad girlfriend, a bad friend and a bad sister and she knew it. She wanted to cry, she wanted to scream, she wanted to tear her hair out and degrade herself, but she kept it together, she was on the isle after all, people here would not be as accommodating to an emotional outburst.
Holly wasn't looking at her, her sister kept her eyes straight ahead. The demigoddess mind was a tangle of thought. She couldn't believe how many people were still on her side, how many kids still claimed to be her demons. At this point she wouldn't be surprised if there was an alter to her somewhere, annoyed? Yes. surprised? No.
Beyond that she couldn't stop rolling the name around in her head, Quinn. He was okay, and by the sound of it he was doing okay for himself.
She had thought about Quinn every day for the past year, and unlike with Uma this was something she was willing to admit. How was he doing? How had he changed? What did he look like now? Was he still quiet or had he become more outspoken? Did he hate her for leaving or was he like the others and always believed she would come back? That last one plagued her.
