San's POV
'About yesterday', Wooyoung brings it up again while we're eating breakfast, 'Do you... Really want to help me? I mean, it was all in a rush and maybe you said you were going to help me just to calm me down, and I wouldn't even be mad if you were- '
He stops rambling when he notices me smiling at him, interrupting him with, 'Of course I want to, I would do anything for you'
The look in his eyes changes, it's clear that sentence stirred something up in him, but it's true, I really would do anything for him.
'Thank you', he almost whispers.
'So', I continue softly, 'Is there anything you haven't told me last night?'
'I've been thinking about it a bit tonight and I do know someone who she might have told where she went'
I feel a sudden spark of hope, and Wooyoung clearly notices and his face lights up a bit.
'Who?'
'A girl, she was Lily's best friend at the time, I think she should know'
Lily.
I repeat the name in my mind, it feels familiar, as if I've heard and thought about it so many times but I don't know where it came from.
'Where can we find her?'
'I remember she lived near the park I used to go with my sister, maybe she still lives there'
'Let's go there today', I take his hand in a desperate attempt to make him feel comfortable.
Wooyoung's POV
I hold onto San's hand tighter.
We're standing at the edge of the park, hand in hand with San, in front of the house I remember as Hannah's, Lily's friend.
I haven't been at this park since she left, we used to come here every week and usually, Hannah was with her when we were here.
'Lily, that's not fair', I'm whining at my sister, who has the lollipop mom gave me in her hand.
'If you can't take the wrapper off, you can't have it', she holds it up so I can't reach it, Hannah's voice laughing in the background.
I'm too young to understand she's joking, a small tear rolling down my face.
'I was just joking', she laughs, giving back the lollipop and the smile reappears on my face.
'Let's go to the playground now', I laugh, talking with my mouth full of the sweet candy.
San notices how hard it is for me to be here, 'Are you okay?'
'I'm fine, just...'
I don't bother to finish my response, and he doesn't bother to wait for it, taking me in his arms into a tight hug, and suddenly I feel like a kid again, crying over a lollipop, while I'm now crying in San's arms, tears rolling down my face.
'You're not fine, don't lie to me', he says calmly.
'I have to do this'
'You don't have to do anything you're not ready for'
I pull away, wiping my tears, 'I'm fine', and walk up to Hannah's front door, telling myself no isn't the moment to be mentally unstable.
'Wait', San tries to stop me, but I've already rang the doorbell, leaving him no choice but to just stand behind me and wait for the door to open.
I immediately recognize the face behind the doorframe, but it takes her a few seconds to recognize mine, her eyes widening.
'Wooyoung?', she exclaims, 'Why...'
I don't let her finish her sentence, 'I'm looking for my sister'
'Wh- Lily?', she seems confused, but something feels wrong, as if she's acting it. I know her well, and I also know she's a bad liar, but she has no reason to lie to me, I think.
'We thought you might know where she went', I say, San still standing behind me like a bodyguard, not moving or making a sound.
'I thought she went to America with her boyfriend', she says, the lying look on her face has faded, looking more like actual concern, 'come in'.
I enter the house, San following closely behind me.
'I really don't know a lot', she says before she gestures us to sit down on the couch, 'But I'll try my best to help you'
Her house is cozy, beige walls decorated with small artworks, brown sofas with blankets draped over them and pillows scattered across and plants in every corner of the room.
'It's okay'
'So... All I remember is that she suddenly just came to tell me she was going to move to America with her boyfriend, he'd found her a job there and they'd live together in an apartment in the city'
'Do you know exactly where they went?'
'I probably shouldn't be giving you this... but she told me her address before she left. She said her boyfriend didn't allow her to tell her new address to anyone, scared that their parents were going to find her, but she gave it to me just in case. I wrote it down and kept it all these years, I really didn't think I'd still need it'
She walks up to a drawer, carefully taking out a yellow sticky note and handing it to me. It's a beautiful handwriting, saying an address in California.
'Thank you'
'Is there anything else I can help you with? I can make you a cup of tea so we can catch up'
'No thanks, I'm-'
'What was his name?', the first thing San said since entering the building. It's strange that she hasn't asked who he was, and barely looked at him, as if it was normal I had a buff man in a suit behind me.
'Uh... I don't really remember'
'That's strange, one would think you'd remember something like that'
'She never told me his name either, she was kind of secretive about him, as if nobody could know about him', I interrupt, and San goes back to being quiet, 'We should go, it was really nice seeing you again'
She smiles, looks relieved, 'Yeah, sure, I hope we'll see each other again'
She stands up and leads us to the door.
Right when the door closes behind us, San asks me, 'It's strange that she didn't know his name'
'I don't know'
'She was acting strange, too'
'I did notice that, but why would she lie?'
'We'll find out about that soon'
'How?'
He takes my hand while we're walking towards his car.
'Because we're catching a flight to California tomorrow'
Hannah's POV
I sit down again after they've left.
My first instinct is to call him, I grab my phone, doing what I need to do.
'Hello?'
'What happened?'
'They came, like you said'
'Did you give them the address?'
'Yes'
'Anything else?'
'No'
'Good'
Beep.
He hung up the phone. I lower my face into my hands and think about why this is happening. Why the hell would anyone do that?
