The bass of the party was still pounding in CiCi's ears as she tiptoed around the dimly lit hotel room, her head throbbing with the first signs of a hangover. Her dress was draped across a chair, one heel missing, and a gold chain that wasn't hers lay tangled in the sheets.
Von was still asleep, his tattooed arm draped over the pillow where she'd been just moments ago. His breathing was slow and steady, lips slightly parted, looking too peaceful for someone who had been anything but last night.
CiCi exhaled, pressing her fingers to her temples. What the hell did I do?
She hadn't planned on this. Hell, she hadn't even planned on meeting him. One minute, she was at the party, sipping on something strong, and the next, she was in a whirlwind of flirtation, laughter, and stolen glances with the one and only King Von. He had a way of talking, a way of looking at her like she was the only woman in the room. One drink turned into two, then three, and before she knew it, they were wrapped up in each other, lost in the heat of the moment.
Now, she was sneaking around his hotel room like a thief, trying not to wake him.
She spotted her phone on the nightstand and grabbed it, along with a pen and a notepad left beside the lamp. Ain't no way I'm just disappearing like a ghost.
Had fun. Don't get used to it. – C
She placed the note next to him, gave one last lingering look, then slipped out the door before she could second-guess herself.
Von woke up to the sound of silence, stretching lazily before realizing the bed beside him was empty. His eyes flickered open, scanning the room until they landed on the small piece of paper.
His lips curled into a smirk as he read it.
Don't get used to it, huh?
Little did CiCi know, she had been on his mind since the moment she walked away.
And he wasn't the type to let something—or someone—he wanted slip through his fingers.
Weeks Later
CiCi hadn't thought about that night in a while—or at least, that's what she kept telling herself. Life went on. Work kept her busy, and she had no reason to dwell on a one-night stand, even if it had been with him.
Until now.
She walked into an exclusive lounge downtown, the music smooth and the atmosphere thick with expensive cologne and soft laughter. She was here with friends, just looking for a chill night, when she felt it—that feeling.
Like someone was watching her.
Her stomach dipped as she turned her head, and there he was.
Von.
Sitting in a VIP section, leaned back against the couch like he owned the whole place. His jewelry caught the dim lighting, but it was his smirk that had her pulse skipping. Like he knew something she didn't.
Like he'd been waiting for this moment.
CiCi swallowed, straightening her shoulders. Act normal. She wasn't about to let him think she was affected.
But when she turned back toward her friends, she already knew it was too late.
Because Von wasn't the type to sit back and watch.
And he damn sure wasn't about to let her walk away again.
