Giselle let out a breathy laugh as she dipped a piece of shrimp into her sauce, shaking her head at Von. "I swear, you always gotta talk to people like you know 'em," she teased, watching as he dapped up yet another fan who approached their table.
Von smirked, taking a sip of his drink. "They show love, I show love back. You know how that go."
Giselle rolled her eyes playfully, resting a hand on her swollen belly. At almost nine months pregnant, she was moving slower these days, but tonight, Von had insisted on taking her out for one last date before the baby arrived. The dimly lit restaurant, the soft music in the background—it was perfect.
Until a sharp pain shot through her stomach.
She gasped, dropping her fork. Her entire body tensed, and Von immediately noticed, his smile fading. "What's wrong?"
"I—I don't know." She sucked in a deep breath, gripping the edge of the table. Then another wave of pain hit, stronger this time. Her eyes widened in panic. "Von—"
Von was already up, coming to her side. "Yo, G, you good? That ain't just a kick, is it?"
She barely had time to shake her head before her water broke—right there in the restaurant. A small puddle spread beneath her chair. Gasps and murmurs erupted around them.
"Oh, hell no—somebody get the car!" Von shouted, already moving to help her up.
The pain was relentless, each contraction coming faster than the last as Von rushed her out the door. The valet barely had time to hand Von his keys before he was helping Giselle into the passenger seat.
"Damn, baby, just breathe, aight? We almost there," he reassured, but his grip on the wheel was tight as he sped toward the hospital, running red lights like his life depended on it.
Giselle clenched her jaw, gripping the door handle. "Von, this baby—oh my God—this baby coming now!"
Von's heart pounded. "Not now now, right?"
She let out a scream that answered his question.
"Nah, hell nah—just hold on, we almost there, I swear," he rushed, pushing the car even faster.
By the time they pulled up to the hospital, nurses were already outside with a wheelchair. Von barely had time to put the car in park before he was helping her out, his heart racing.
Hours passed in a blur of pain and screaming. Von stayed glued to Giselle's side, holding her hand even when she squeezed so tight he thought she'd break his fingers.
"Come on, G, you got this," he murmured, his forehead pressed to hers as she panted.
And then—
A sharp cry filled the air.
Von's head snapped up as the doctor lifted a tiny, wriggling baby. "Congratulations! You have a son!"
Tears filled Von's eyes as he looked at his son for the first time. "Damn," he whispered, shaking his head. "That's my lil' man."
But before he could fully process it—
"Wait," the doctor frowned, eyes widening. "There's another one."
Von blinked. "Another what?"
Giselle gasped, her entire body tensing again. "Von—I told you something felt different!"
Within minutes, another cry echoed in the room.
"Congratulations! You have a daughter, too!"
Von's mouth dropped open. "A what?"
Giselle was panting, exhausted, but when the nurse placed their baby girl in her arms, tears rolled down her cheeks. "Von... we got twins," she breathed.
Von was still stuck, his hands on his head, pacing like he couldn't believe it. "Man, what? We was ready for one—now we got two? That's crazy." But then he looked at them—his son, his daughter—and a slow smile broke across his face. He stepped closer, brushing a hand over each of their tiny faces before pressing a long kiss to Giselle's forehead.
"Damn, baby," he whispered, voice thick with emotion. "I swear, you just made me the happiest man alive."
Giselle leaned against him, exhausted but full of love. "I think they were just as excited to meet you as you were to meet them."
Von chuckled, shaking his head. "Yeah, they on demon time already."
Giselle laughed softly, and as Von held their newborns, he knew—his life had just changed forever, in the best way possible.
