I sit on the bed, crossing my arms as Darry paces across the room thinking of what to say to me. "Maribeth, you cant steal stuff, just to get revenge," he finally says. I decided to tell him everything. "You can't act like Dallas your whole life," he says, frowning down at me. "I know," I say, tears running down my face. I love Darry and all but when me or Pony are in trouble , he can get scary. Two bit calls him Scary Darry when Darry's mad at something. "I shouldn't be doing this crap. Especially when your taking me in and wasting what little money you have on me. I just need to leave," I let out, standing up. "No, sit," he says, pointing at me. I sit back down. "We love you Maribeth, Pony's in love with you. We don't want you to leave. Pony's working at the movie house too, we have plenty of money for you to stay with us. Remember Dally was our friend too. He told me and Soda that if he ever died, he'd want us to take care of you and we promised. And us Curtis' never break a promise. We just don't want you getting hurt, Maribeth," he says. By now I'm sobbing. I've haven't cried this much since the funeral. Darry looks at me, then puts a hand over his forehead. When I first moved in, I heard Darry tell Soda that he's not good with emotional girls, and that's exactly how I am right now. "Should I get Soda?" He mumbles. I shake my head and wipe the tears of my face with my sleeve. He nods then stays silent for a bit. "I'm basically your brother now, so I'm going to have to ground you for a couple of weeks," he says, minutes later. "Ok," I say, after I could breathe properly. "Please be careful, we don't want anything happening to you because we love you, Maribeth," he says, walking over to me, hugging me, and giving me a kiss on the forehead. "I'm going to get Soda and the others. They want to talk to you too," Darry says, heading for the door, then turns around and looks at me. "And I don't like that thing on you, its not appropriate for someone your age," he says very seriously, then smiles at me and walks out of the room to get the others.
