Were we pushing our luck? Possibly.
Sylus sent his best henchmen to replace the bodyguards we severely injured the other day. Considering it's a job exclusively for men, he decided it was best to put me on scout duty with the twins.
"I'm curious," my voice made the brunette lifted his head up to face me. "Now that you're not wearing your masks, you don't look like twins at all."
The twins had very distinct features. Luke had the typical messy, curly brown hair and amber eyes, while Kieran had straight, nearly black hair and brown-ish, red-tinted eyes. Only thing they share in common was their deathly pale skin and several scars across their neck to their arms.
"We learnt to do the unrecognizable makeup overnight," Luke dabbed the sweats rolling down the side of his temples with the small towel that sat on his left shoulder. If the makeup part was true, I'm impressed that he hadn't smudged the foundation off his face.
"Using makeups the boss wanted to give you. Buttt, it was near its expiration date so he bought new ones instead," Kieran was leaning against the crudely made table, an opened tin lunchbox sitting on his lap.
Furrowing my brows, I took a seat next to Kieran. "He bought me more makeup?" looking up, the shadow of the construction project obscured the sunset from my view. It's only been a few hours since I became a supervisor and I already feel like a grilled fish from the unbearable heat. I hope Sylus wouldn't mind grilled fish for dinner.
I chuckled to myself. Crossing my arms over my chest, I stared at Luke standing across the table. He's been staring at the building's structure for awhile now. "What's wrong?"
"There's crows up there."
Following his line of sight, I spotted a murder of crows pecking away at the building's structure. With loud caws, some of them left the steel bar to fly away. Two of them dove down near the table, their heads cocked to the side as they stared at me. Cautiously extending my hand out to the crow, it surprisingly jumped to the palm of my hand. Its beak grazed my skin, leaving a small object on my hand.
The crow jumped down, revealing two long metal screws. "Oh, you're one of the crow I usually feed," it cawed happily at my recognition. My hand swiftly grabbed the spare sandwich from Luke's lunchbox, passing it over on the table for the crows to eat.
"Kieran was gonna eat that," Luke remarked nonchalantly, closing his lunchbox.
Turning to Kieran, he dismissively waved his hand. "Eh, don't worry. Poor guy's probably starving."
As the sky gradually darkened, the lamps all over the construction site automatically turned on. Sylus and the others should be giving us a signal soon. Though so far, my earpiece had been silent since we went our separate ways. It didn't help the anxiety bubbling inside of me.
"How much longer till they enter the building?" I huffed a curt sigh.
"In a minute, I bet my left ear," both the twins turned to each other as they spoke in sync. "JINX!" Luke raised his hand to resemble a gun, aiming it at a defeated Kieran.
"I hope you don't mind babysitting the twins," my earpiece finally crackled to life.
"Sylus!" I coughed, hiding the fact that I sounded too eager just a second ago. "Are you in yet?"
"Yes. My henchmen are spreading all over the area. It's just Matthias and blondie with me."
"Current situation?"
"Lights are out, building's deserted. We're heading straight to the chairman's office."
"Okay," I hesitated, waiting for Sylus to say something in advance—which he didn't. "Be careful. Tell me when you need my help."
