"We were
Just friends
That spoke like lovers
And that seemed to be enough for
Two teenagers who were scared to love one another"

Lorenzo Berkshire
The Great Hall was buzzing with the usual evening chatter, the flickering candlelight casting long shadows on the ancient stone walls. I sat at the Slytherin table, picking at my shepherd's pie, half-listening to the conversation around me. It wasn't until I heard Cassie's voice, sharp with frustration, that I truly tuned in.
Things were... better between us, I guess. At least we were talking again. But she still kept me at a frustrating distance, and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to push past it or just be grateful I hadn't lost her completely.
"Well, I'm doomed," Cassie declared, glaring at her plate as if it had personally offended her. I raised an eyebrow, more out of habit than anything.
"What now?", Onyx asked, popping a grape into her mouth.
"Snape said if I don't pass my resit for Divination, I can't do my seventh year."
I scoffed. "Since when does Snape care about Divination?".
"He doesn't," Cassie muttered, rubbing her temple. "But apparently, failing an OWL twice makes the whole house look bad. And since I'll be 17, I don't technically need to stay for my last year".
Onyx shrugged. "You'll just have to revise, Cass. No way around it."
"Oh, brilliant idea, Onyx," Cassie shot back. "If only I'd thought of that before." She groaned, dropping her head onto the table with a dull thud.
I can't help but chuckle to myself. Cassie's dramatics have always been one of my favourite things about her.
Onyx caught my eye, and there's a knowing glint in her gaze. I don't like it. Before I could prepare myself, she smirked.
"Lorenzo could help you revise", she tilted her head at me, her tone casual but her eyes flicking towards me with intent. "He's always been good at Divination."
I spluttered on my drink.
Cassie turned to look at me, eyebrows raised in mild surprise. I swallowed quickly, setting my glass down, ignoring the way my pulse had picked up.
Draco took the opportunity to chime in. "I could use some help too, actually-".
Before he could say anything more, Onyx kicked him under the table. He let out a strangled noise of pain. Onyx just sipped her pumpkin juice like she hadn't done anything at all.
I bit back a laugh. She was obvious as hell.
Cassie, oblivious to their silent exchange, shook her head. "Enzo's busy with quidditch".
