The text comes just as Travis is considering searching the house for Taylor.

Can you go break those two up and tell my husband that if he doesn't get home for my parent's Christmas party, then he's coming to live with you?

Man, that would be...

...I love them both, but a nightmare.

Lol

He heads upstairs and down the hall to the smallest guest room, now enshrouded in heavy blankets. He's told her time and again they could put in a studio, but she declines every time. Not wanting to take over the house as if he wouldn't let her paint the entire house bright fucking orange and transport her entire NY apartment down to the last detail if that was what she wanted.

What she doesn't know is that the walkout basement man cave that is currently "running overtime" actually includes a space for her. Outfitted with everything Jack and Aaron said she would need. That reminds him, he needs to buy a big ass bow to put on the door for Christmas.

The door is cracked open just slightly for the cats, and he peeks in. Taylor is hunched over her guitar, strumming.

"No, it's....I can't put my finger on it. Like it goes up like this...yeah, and then where?" she growls, blowing her bangs out of her face, frustrated.

He hears Jack's laugh and a murmur through the headphones, and she exclaims, "Oh yeah!" Strumming again, the additional notes flow perfectly. She does a little dance in her seat, and he figures that is his cue.

He ducks his head in and waves to get her attention, "Hey, Tay."

"Hey!" she replies with a smile at him. "Jack just had the best idea!"

He lets her explain, he loves learning and witnessing her process. Still, he's been tasked.

"Margaret texted..."

"Oh no, Jack, we're in trouble with the better halves," she jokes with a wink. She unplugs her headphones so her producer's voice fills the room.

"TK, are you harshing our vibe?"

Travis puts his hands to his heart, "I would never mess with genius."

"See, Taylor?"

"Your wife, however, said something about a party?"

"Oh shit, what time is it?" Jack exclaims, shoving his glasses back on his face.

Taylor widens her eyes at Travis and slaps her hand over her mouth to contain a giggle.

"You better go, dude," she says, setting aside the guitar and standing and stretching. "We can finish next week."

"Yeah, text me. I got that thing Tuesday."

"K, go before you piss your in-laws off forever."

He logs off to the sound of their laughter. Travis comes into the room, dropping his hands to her shoulders. They're often sore after working so long.

"You got more to do?" he questions just as his thumb hits a knot, and she gasps.

"Nah, I can be done," she replies, leaning into his touch.

"You sure? I want you to have time for work whenever you need. You staying in KC is amazing, but I don't want to mess up your flow....except maybe if we have a family party," he teases.

She laughs and tips her head up towards him, pulling him down to kiss his cheek.

"I appreciate you, but I'm ready to be done today. It's actually been great for focus to be here. I don't know. I'm feeling good about things right now. It's flowing."
