"She looks exactly like you!" the girl cooed at the child in Keefe's arms.
I watched as his eyes lit up and he smiled. There was clear pride in his face at having his sweet baby girl compared to him.
I mean, she did look like him. Except for the hint of gold in her eyes: that came from me.
"We really need to get some shopping done, so we'd better go," I interrupted the girl's fawning, giving her a polite smile.
She had come up to Keefe and I while we were shopping in Atlantis---which was common, because everyone recognized us---as well as the new arrival to our family. She seemed sweet, but Alora was due for a nap soon, meaning we needed to run our errands and get home.
"Oh yes, of course! Thank you for letting me meet her!" the girl replied, practically bouncing as she moved out of our path. I gave her a parting wave as Keefe hoisted Alora higher up on his hip.
Keefe placed his hand against the small of my back, leading me forwards. Gosh, I loved it when he did that.
"You know, I think she looks more like you than she does me."
"Pfft, okay, right."
"What? I'm serious."
I looked up at Keefe, attempting to judge his expression. He couldn't be serious.
"She's practically your carbon copy," I said, baffled at his statement. Sure, Alora did look like me, but she clearly took after Keefe much more.
"She has your eyes."
I scoffed. "She does not. My eyes are brown, remember?" I stated the obvious, waving my hand in front of my face.
"How could I forget?" he said affectionately as he gazed down at me. Keefe still had his hand on my back, and I felt his index finger tap lightly against me: a small way of letting me know he loved me.
"How does she have my eyes, then?"
"She has that same fire in them. Her eyes may be blue, but she has your spirit," he answered smugly, his gaze still loving.
I was stunned into silence. How could I ever deserve this man?
"I love you, Soph."
I know.
