I wrung my hands together nervously as I paced around the kitchen. Keefe would be home soon, and then I would need to tell him.
I mean, it's not like he would be upset. Or even that surprised. We both knew it was bound to happen soon.
But I was still nervous. Extremely so.
I heard the quiet sound of the door opening and closing in the foyer.
My feet stilled and I found myself glued to the ground. I felt like a deer in headlights.
"Sophie?" Keefe called, the soft click of his shoes growing closer.
He rounded the corner into the kitchen, a smile lighting up his face.
"Hey, darling, how-" he started, cutting himself off, his eyebrows scrunching up. "What's that expression for?"
I shook my head quickly, trying to clear the anxiety from my face. "Nothing!"
Keefe looked at me silently, unconvinced.
"I just..." I began, raising my hand to pluck out an eyelash.
He gripped my wrist and dragged it down before I had the chance. "Don't even try to lie," he warned.
He was right though; it would be pointless. But how was I even supposed to begin this conversation?
Keefe watched me patiently as I sorted through my thoughts.
"We have a few faint memories of when we went to the future," I said slowly, attempting to start.
"Right," he said, eyes narrowed in suspicion. I could practically see him thinking the words 'where is this going?".
"And you remember the kids?"
"A little bit, yes."
"Well...." I trailed off, smiling nervously and placing my hand on my stomach.
Keefe blinked down at me a few times before I watched understanding dawn on his face. His mouth opened and closed a few times, imitating a fish, while he stared at where my hand rested.
"Keefe...?"
He finally looked at me, and the pure joy on his face calmed my nerves. "We're having a baby?" he whispered, beaming.
I nodded and laughed as Keefe wrapped me up in a tight hug. I felt his heart beating next to my ear and I let out a breath of relief.
"This is amazing. I love you so much, Sophie."
"And I love you."
