As soon as we got to the hospital, Gary ran out of the car and I followed him into the Emergency Room. The same doctors at the crash scene were pushing the stretcher Mark was lying on along the corridor and another one joined them. One of the doctors at the car crash said that Mark had a serious wound on his head, probably because he hit it with the steerring wheel during the accident.
"He's been losing too much blood..." a doctor informed the others.
"What's going to happen now?" Gary asked in desperation.
No-one gave him an answer.
The doctors kept talking about Mark and disappeared with him behind a door.
"Jesus..." Gaz sighed and fell heavily on a chair.
I was too worried, too overwhelmed with many mixed emotions to even say anything. I honestly couldn't process what was going on.
On the one hand, I couldn't believe that Mark had been in a car crash and that he was fighting for his life, but on the other hand I couldn't help thinking about Angie's ignorance of what was going on, as she was probably already on a plane, heading to the States.
What would she do if she knew what had happened to Mark?
I wanted to believe that Angie wouldn't have got on that plane, but the truth is that I wasn't sure. Angie's personality had been altered so much after Mark left New York to come back to England, that there were times in which I thought I didn't know her at all. Her character had changed even more when she learned that she was pregnant and I cannot even describe how different she started to behave after the abortion.
As years went by, the times in which Angie and I laughed as we used to do when we were teenagers started to be less frequent. She preferred to lock herself up in her apartment, arguing that she had too much to study for Juilliard or that she was too tired from work. But even when she was dating Jamie, we both well knew that the reason for which she did all that had a name and a surname: Mark Owen.

"You won't guess what I heard..." I told Angie as she put the food we had just bought in the refrigerator - we were going to have the apartment just for ourselves that weekend. Howard was on a business trip in Chicago for the week and Jamie had gone to visit his parents in Philadelphia.
"What did you hear? That you don't love your husband?" she chuckled and I shook my head, too shocked by the news stiil. "What then?"
"Mark won Celebrity Big Brother in the UK!" I exclaimed happily just when Angie tucked her head into the fridge to put some things away.
"I'm sorry, who did you say?" Angie asked me again. Had she really not heard?
"Mark, Mark Owen..." I said still smiling "Ain't that great? I'm sure that now that he won, there'll be like a TT reunion... Oh my god, can you imagine how amazing that would be!? We are so going to their concerts if they do any...!"
Angie's face was a picture.
"You're not excited?"
"Me? Oh, yes--- yes, I am..." she gave a little frown before she sipped her wine.
"It doesn't seem to me that you're happy..."
"I am," she said trying to convince me. "Good for him! YAY!" She uttered with a sigh.
"I--- I'm sorry Ang," I started off "I just thought we could start talking about him... I mean, it's been like eight years since---"
"No," she cut me halfway. "No we can't start talking about him."
