Chapter 2 Training Begins
My training begins with my brother Sir Androw, having to become comfortable in the presence of my dragon self Kar. There are leather breast plates to be made, for protection in battle, and a saddle to sit on, which I will have to get used to wearing, both are separate pieces that hook together. My brother though a brave knight he may be, trembles at the sight of Kar, for all dragons of this time, were known to kill men at the very first sight. He slowly crept up behind me, shield in hand sword held high, so when I turned and lowered my head to him, he calmed and soon we were working together. What Androw did not believe was that I, a mere princess, could control the dragon within, in lowering my head to show respect to this knight, a bond was forged.
The village blacksmith was given a sketch, with everything he needed to make me a plate to shield me from arrows that might fly. Straps were added to secure a saddle for Sir Androw to sit. Then it was brought to the castle roof for me to try on for a fit. Once on, I stretched my wings, flapping them hard, sending up dust, then I lifted off for a fly. It was time for me to test out this new piece to see if I could fly with it in place. When I returned Sir Androw was amazed with the sight before him. As he walked up to me, I bowed down so he could remove the harness from my body, then walked toward the new wall that was built for me, transforming back into the princess. Once there, my cloths were hung, a lovely maroon dress, my handmaidens were called, to come out and help me get dressed.
I walked over to my brother Androw to see what he thought. A frown upon his face, his only problem was with how to communicate with me while in flight. I gave that some thought, then decided to go look at the ancient book that brought forth the dragon. There must be something in there that can help us.
“After that faith filled night, that small book I hid from sight
- within my room, never for eyes to see again”.
The book was old cracked, leather covered, small book. The writing within is faded but still readable with all kinds of symbols, and marks, words in a foreign language which for some reason I can read. I sit down by my window ledge to read. This book is of magic and lore from a time gone by, the writer I know not. I search the pages for a spell of voice, so when in flight we may communicate as one. As I flip through the pages in search, I find the one verse, of the dragon that night. Upon the next I do see, communicate with one who must also see. The spell must be done on a full moon, between the rider and dragon, a spell must be cast, and from then on they will forever be seen as one.
“This is wonderful” I scream, running from my room, down to the first level of the castle. I come across two guards and ask them of my brothers, Sir Androw and Sir Author, pointing toward the war room. I run to the door and knock one time loudly and wait. “ENTER” I hear. I walk into the room, and there round a table many men with my king. All eyes turn in my direction, and they bow as I enter. “Your highness” I curtsy “I have news for Sir Androw, a way to talk to the dragon in battle.” All eyes go wide “We are going to use a dragon in battle?” I think I let the proverbial kitten out of the pot so to speak. My King frowns at me then waves me forward. I tell him of my plan if he will approve. He tells me he will get back to me later that day, that I should go study what he gave me and make plans for more practice. I turn and curtsy leaving with a red face. My farther dismissed me like a child with the wave of his hand.
