●Fred's POV●
She was gorgeous... and everything I know I would regret.
I was in the entrance hall, waiting for Angelina when I saw her. When I saw y/n. I wanted to look away when I caught the flash of red from the dress Angelina was wearing, but I couldn't. Bringing myself to draw my gaze away would feel like torture. Eons of torture.
It wasn't until George-lovely brother that he is-coughed way too loud for it to be believable. Luckily, it did bring my attention to him. "You're staring," he said.
"Am not." I turn away and smile at Ange as she approaches me.
"Handsome as always." She tripled a lock of my hair between her fingers. It felt wrong. Maybe if it was y/n doing it, it would feel right- no. This is wrong. Wrong on so many levels. I'm supposed to hate her. Why do I even hate her? Well, I don't. Never truly did. Maybe it was like what every juggle tells their daughter. "He's mean because he likes you." But that also feels wrong.
Maybe I did like her. But I wouldn't be mean because of it, right? No. Surely not.
"Hey, Georgie." Her voice peirces my thoughts. Even her voice was lovely- did I not tell her that I'd rather her dead at the world cup? Did I not say that? Was I going back in myself? On my word? No.
"Y/n, lovely seeing you here. Nice dress." My twin took her hand and twirled her, making her let out a giggle.
Katie went to his side, looping he arm through his. "Oh, yeah. Freaking Gor-geous. Mhm. You're welcome." She gave me a sideling glance and winked.
Rolling my eyes, I looked at y/n. Normal conversation wouldn't hurt... "Who did you come with, y/n?"
"Hm... let's see... me... myself... oh, and I." She counted on her fingers, her smirk turning into a mischievous grin.
I couldn't control my chuckles, but then a thought hit me. I thought she was going with the vampire... I turn around on myself, spotting him with the Ravenclaw seeker, Cho Chang. Huh...
George elbowed y/n and pointed at the seekers, both squealing like little girls when Diggory planted a kiss to Cho's cheek.
"Task completed." Y/n held her hand out for a high-five.
"Task... completed?" I whisper just loud enough for George to pick up.
"Oh, yeah. Diggory boy has been crushing on Cho for weeks now. Y/n and I managed to set them up on a little date during our last trip to Hogsmeade. Budding romance, I tell you."
I froze in the spot. Is that what the conversation in the halls was all about. Setting up Cho and Diggory? And not him and y/n? It made sense. Merlin, I was so foolish. Jumping to conclusions. Ugh. How stupid of me.
Lee came up behind us, hand clasped with Alicia's. I don't fail to notice the look he sends Geirge while he isn't looking. Talk about a budding romance.
I catch y/n staring at George, squinting at him, then Lee. She also catches the glance and grins. "Mmm," she hums. "Anyways. George, I'm stealing your girl." She grabs Katie's arm and goes to the dance floor.
I start to laugh, but George cuts me off. "You wish that was you, hm?"
"Oh, piss off, Georgie."
"Don't deny it, Freddie. You were blushing like an idiot when you gave her your gift this morning. She's gonna be ticked when she finds out that you spent two years' worth of your savings on that necklace she's wearing right now." He points at y/n's neck, which is adorned with the silver chain I had gotten her. It matched her y/f/c dress perfectly, catching light at every angle.
I let out a reluctant grunt of acknowledgment.
"I think you'll like your gift." He patted my shoulder before dragging Lee and his 'date' to the dance floor as well. This left me stunned. Gift? I wasn't given a gift.
I looked back down at Angelina as she started going to the table with all the food and punch. I really hoped no one here was against alcohol because that juice would be spiked without a doubt by the end of the night.
Moving toward a table Alicia had saved for us, I went to sit down but almost sat on a tiny box. I stare at it. It had my name on it in sloppy, yet somehow still elegant script. Huh... I hold the tiny thing, unsure what to do.
Well, I did know what to do, but I didn't as well? That doesn't make sense.
Regardless, I opened it, praying it wasn't one of mine and George's dung bombs because that wouldn't go well for anyone her who had a hope of smelling anything decent for the next week.
Though, inside was not a prank, thank goodness. Instead, it was a ring. A lively silver one that sat snug around my ring finger. It wasn't intricate, but it was elegant. A thicker silver band with a W on it, two orange gems embedded on either side of it. It was quite pretty. And it looked expensive, so it might not tarnish as quick as some muggle jewelry.
Now, what I wanted to know was who got it for me...
● Reader's POV ●
I watched carefully between twirls and laughter as Fred opened his gift. It was a last-minute thing that I didn't have planned whatsoever. Somehow, I got McGonagall to help me embed the two orange stones. Topaz, I believe they were called. Very pretty. And then the W was as simple at a charm Flitwick had taught us to write on things. It worked, thankfully.
The ring itself was a different story. I managed to sneak through a tunnel to Hogsmeade and bought the silver band along with the gems. Expensive? Absolutely. Regrets? None.
He got me a beautiful gift, and I get him one in return. It's only fair... Right?
