"Wait, so Harry, you almost got expelled?!" George slung his arm around the boy's shoulder.
"I guess so. Dumbledore saved me."
"So... What'd ya do?" Fred was quick to his other side.
Ron and Hermione already knew, obviously, so they were currently up in their respective rooms packing and getting ready to go to King's cross tomorrow morning. Back to Hogwarts we go... Was I excited? I don't know. On one hand, I'm graduating, but on the other, there are definitely a few students who I definitely would not like to see again. I'm looking at you, Cho, Roger, Crabbe, and Goyle.
From what I've heard based on the gossip of Ginny and her friends, Cho is still devastated about the loss of her boyfriend. Her boyfriend my rear. They hardly had anything real. If anything, she liked Roger before finding out that Cedric was a champion. Now he's gone and Roger is pining after her, but she's too focused on milking the pity points she gets for having been in a relationship with Ced at the time of his passing.
All of it made my blood boil and bubble under my skin. I had to force myself to focus back in on the conversation.
"Well, that priss in pink sure sounds like a doozy. And not the good kind." George and Fred high-fived.
I must have missed some of the conversation. Something about Dudley, dementors, and pink. Oh well. It's his story to tell and he told it, so I'll deal with whatever consequences there were for not listening in.
It's been at least three weeks since the extendable ear incident... I haven't talked to Fred since. What is with me and the silent treatment this past year? Clearly something if it's been this popular between us.
And here he was, completely unbothered by all of it. Prancing around with his twin and magicking the hell out of everything now that they can use magic outside of school. I'm pretty sure the two of them haven't used the stairs at all, simply apparating with odd popping sounds everywhere.
And then there's mother and father Weasley. Both of them give me odd looks now too. And whenever Fred and I are in the same room, especially for dinners, their eyes can never settle on one person, always flicking between. It got a bit unnerving at times, but then Molly would smile and give me extra food. Which I wasn't complaining about, but if it was because f what Fred had decided to spill to her, then I most certainly would start complaining.
I don't need her feeling bad for me.
-
We just got to the train station and were officially on platform 9 and 3/4. Steam from the engines rolled over the brick walkways, billowing in the slight breeze. I always enjoyed the smell of the Hogwarts Express. There was something about it that screamed the word home.
"Y/N!!" Lee left his cart beside George and sprinted at me, tackling me in a hug.
Yep. It was good to be back.
"LEE!!"
"Hi! How've you been! Georgie says you spent most of summer with the Weasley's again. Was it fun? Was it? Was it?" He was practically vibrating with excitement.
"Hi! I've been better... Uh, yeah, I spent the summer with them again, and..." Was it really as fun as I was about to say it was? I mean, aside from the whole Fred spilling one of my biggest secrets thing, then I suppose it was fun. I got to goof off with the golden trio, play dress-up with Ginny - I'm actually surprised she still even plays that - and I got to have an entire false marriage to Bill only to hand him divorce papers (for the fifth time now) immediately after. "Yeah. It was fun!"
"Yay! Glad to hear it! Come on! Let's get on the train!" He pulled me onto the train, leaving George to do the loading, but I don't think George minded doing that in the slightest.
Am I ready to spend however many hours it takes to get to Hogwarts cooped up with Fred? The answer is no.
"Actually, Lee, I was thinking about sitting with Harry and them for a bit first, if that's okay."
"Oh! Yeah! Go ahead! I'll tell the others in case they worry or something." He waved me down the hall toward Harry's compartment.
"See you in a bit." I smile and knock on the half-open door. "Can I come in?"
"y/n! Sure!" Hermione pats the seat beside her. Somehow, Ron has already managed to stuff his face full of chocolate frogs, sifting through the cards with a mouthful. A leg was still twitching between his lips. Gross. I never liked chocolate frogs. Why did they have to act like the real things? Though it is funny to release them near a chocolate fountain and watch them jump in. We definitely had fun with that at the Yule ball last year. Cedric had started it, opening one of the packages and being dumbfounded by it jumping into the fountain and melted.
This would be the first year without him... I know I technically have had other years without him before, but last year made it feel so much longer... With him, time sort of slowed, like it was a friend waiting for you to tie your shoe on a sidewalk. It was nice. But now that he's gone, will this year move faster than last? Or will it be even slower?... Like having a friend continue walking after you asked them to stop so you could tie your shoe...
Suddenly, I was dreading the next 195 days. And yes, I was absolutely counting.
195 days with Fred. And forever without Cedric...
"y/n?" Harry waved his hand in front of my face, knocking me out of my stupor.
"Yeah?"
"What's on your mind?"
"Just thinking."
"Bout what?" Ron asked, wiping a drip of chocolate on his chin.
"Or who?" Hermione giggled.
I hit her lightly across the thigh, trying to fight the smile pulling at the corners of my mouth. How dare she. Now that I've smiled, she'll think there is actually someone. I know her tricks.
"No one."
"Fred?" She cooed, poking my cheek. Harry let out a snort, meanwhile Ron is almost choking on his frogs.
"Wha- No!" My face heats. Why was my face heating? Stop that.
"Yes~" Hermione nudged me. "I may be two years younger, but I'm not stupid. You like that boy more than what your heart can contain. It's practically leaking from your eyes."
Ron was just staring at me with wide eyes.
"An ear told me we were teasing a certain someone." George appeared in the doorway, holding a newer looking extendable ear. He sat on my other side and shut the sliding door.
"Yeah, about Fred, apparently," Ron grumbled, finally swallowing what was in his mouth.
My eyes bulged. There was no way he just said that. And there is no way it's truly that obvious, right?
"Ah... My older, much less nice looking, twin..." He rubbed his chin like he had a goatee. "You think he is... cute? Mm. No. Wrong word. Oh! You think he is everything." He let out a witch-like laugh and kicked his feet up. "Hey, Harry."
Harry watched everything. He was definitely the most awkward when it came to conversations like these. "Uh. Hello."
I didn't think my face could get redder. But it did. And my palms were probably leaving sweaty imprints on my blue jeans. "I do not think that."
"You totally do." George pinched my cheek.
I take his hand away. "No!"
"Ah... My mistake. You do not like him. You love him."
"I-" What do I even say to that? 'Yes, George, I am in love with your twin brother but can't act like it because I don't feel like paying him 100 galleons.' That's stupid! That doesn't work like that! I can't-
I definitely lost this damn bet...
I am so screwed.
I'm done for.
Why?
Because I am in love with Fred Weasley.
