Fuck.

A storm of emotions crashed over me, fear, adrenaline, excitement, bloodlust, none of them my own though, I can feel all and every emotion crashing onto me, it was almost distracting.

Uriah and I stood alone against an army that even our pack had feared to face. And yet, here we were. Two wolves against legions.

I barely dared to breathe. My gaze flicked between the patrolling guard and the mass of warriors behind him. These weren't just soldiers, they were a force of nature, their movements disciplined, calculated. Their weapons gleamed under the pale light of the moon, their armor heavy with purpose. They had trained for war. Not for survival, not for self-defense, for destruction.

And they saw us.

The moon's light stretched across the clearing, draping Uriah and me in silver. Every muscle in my body tensed, coiling, preparing to fight, to tear through them if we had to.

And then-

"Where did they go?"

The guard's voice was sharp, laced with confusion.

I didn't dare move, neither did Uriah. The guard's brows furrowed. He took a cautious step forward, scanning the area, not at us, but through us.

"They-they were right here !" he murmured, turning toward a fellow soldier.

Another man came up behind him, he glanced up, frowning. "What are you talking about?"

"I swear I saw something, I saw the silver wench. "

I snapped to Uriah through our mind-link. "Don't move out of the moon's light."

He retorted back "Care to explain, Luna?"

The realization sent a cold shiver through me.

"The Moon is shielding us. Now don't. fucking. move."

" No shit Sherlock, but why?"

I ignored him.

It wasn't just a trick of the eye; it was something ancient. The Moon wasn't just a celestial body to wolves. She was a goddess, a mother. The one who had gifted us our existence.

And now, she had wrapped us in her embrace, hiding us in plain sight.

The soldier up back shook his head, gripping his sword tighter. "You're imagining things."

But Storm, Storm wasn't fooled.

He stood at the middle of the clearing, his silver eyes locked straight onto mine,  daring mine to even blink. A slow, knowing smile curved his lips.

Of course he knew.

The moon had done this before. She had cloaked us, protected us, hidden us in her shadows and blinded our enemies with her light.

But she had never taken a side because she had created us both. And yet, somehow, at this very moment, I felt like I was her favorite.

Fuck you, Storm.

"See," Storm's voice rang through the field, smooth, commanding, too unbothered. "I prayed to the moon to create a false vision, a trick of the light, to see how you would react if they had come to sneak up on us. And none of you even moved. You failed the test, disappointing. Resume training."

I exhaled slowly, forcing my heartbeat to steady.

Lucille's eyes narrowed at him, suspicion rolling off her in waves."You came here to help us train, not play mind games."
