Edit : I gave up the story for 7 years :(
Skye/May's POV :
Time seemed to come to a grinding halt the moment her body shifted back. One second, she was a wolf, strong and untamed, and the next, she was just... Gem. Naked, vulnerable, sprawled on the cold floor, her chest rising and falling in shallow, uneven breaths.
She looked so fragile like this, too human, too breakable. Her limbs, usually so full of energy, lay motionless, drained of all life. I knew she was still in there, still fighting, but the silence that followed her collapse was suffocating.
None of us moved at first. None of us spoke.
It was the doctor who finally broke free from the spell of shock, rushing forward and scooping her up in his arms. He placed her onto the bed with a gentleness that made my throat tighten, his expression unreadable, professional. but his hands trembled. That alone told me how bad it was.
Then, without a word, he turned on us, shoving us all out of the room. We didn't resist. No one argued. The door slammed shut behind us, and with it, any illusion of control we had left.
This was in his hands now, I used up all my strenght in the transfer of pain, I can't do any more, there's too much training left for me to do in order to adapt this body to my power.
Kaiden stood frozen in place, fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. His breathing was uneven, his body rigid, like he was preparing for a blow that hadn't come yet. He hadn't said a word since we were pushed out, but I could feel it, the crushing weight of his guilt.
I should tell him it's not his fault. I should tell him she wanted this, but she didn't at first, he forced it on her. So the words stuck in my throat because not that deep down, I knew... if she didn't make it, some part of me would always blame him. How could I not?
His bite had caused the change. His bite had stopped her heart.
And now, all we could do was wait.
The pack house felt different after that, like the walls were closing in, like the air had turned stale with worry. No one spoke. No one even looked at each other for too long. We all just... wandered. As if moving could stop us from thinking about the worst.
I ended up outside, in the garden, the one with the lake. It was beautiful here, a place meant for peace, but right now, it felt wrong. The moon's reflection rippled across the water, distorted and broken.
That's when I saw him.
Jordan.
He was lying on his back, staring at the night sky, his eyes unfocused, his chest rising and falling with uneven breaths. The tracks of silent tears glistened on his face.
I sat beside him, folding my legs beneath me, the grass cool against my skin.
I wanted to break the silence but words felt heavy, like lead on my tongue. I needed to hold on to the idea that this wasn't over yet. That there was still a chance.
