As dawn broke over the city, the warmth of the sun spilled through Jungkook's bedroom window, bathing the room in golden light. Yet, that warmth felt bittersweet as he lay awake, staring at the ceiling, thoughts swirling around one person—Yn. It was odd how someone he had known for such a short period could occupy so much of his mind, but her absence at work only heightened his emotional turmoil.
Jungkook sighed deeply and rolled onto his side, glancing at the clock by his bedside. The hands ticked away, the seconds dragging on like hours. He had mountains of work waiting for him at The Jeon Empire, yet his heart wasn't in it. The coding problems from yesterday felt trivial compared to the emptiness he felt in her absence. How could he focus when he couldn't shake the image of Yn's gentle smile or that sadness in her eyes when she last saw him?
He swung his legs over the side of the bed, resting his elbows on his knees as he ran a hand through his hair, frustration brewing inside him as he thought back to their time in the hospital. Her pale face, the way she clung to him—something about that moment felt life-altering.
Without thinking, he reached for his phone, fumbling to find Yoongi's contact. Yoongi Min was a name that struck both fear and respect throughout Korea. A powerful figure in the corporate world, he also had undisguised ties to the underground—the mafia king, as they whispered—but Jungkook knew him as a loyal friend and ally. The air always shifted around him, an aura of dominance that few dared to cross. And now, he needed that influence to uncover the shadows that loomed over Yn's life.
With a sigh, Jungkook pressed the call button, anticipation trickling down his spine as he waited for the line to connect.
"Jungkook," Yoongi's voice came through, low and gravelly, an immediate wave of calm washing over him. "What's up?"
"Hyung, have you looked into what I discussed yesterday ," Jungkook began, his voice steady despite the urgency in his heart. "I think there might be someone after her. I... I don't know what they want, but they might have been involved in her past. It's complicated."
Yoongi's silence spoke volumes, and Jungkook could almost feel the gears turning in his friend's mind. "There is something fishy Kook."
"I know hyung, I can't shake off this feeling that she's in danger, and I want to find out who's behind it."
A beat of silence lingered before Yoongi responded, his tone now laced with seriousness. "Jungkook, you know I could make a few calls, dig around. But I need you to promise me that you'll keep your head down and stay away from impulsive decisions. We don't want something uncommon happening."
"I promise, hyung. Just uncover what you can for me. I can't afford to lose her," Jungkook replied, determination in his voice.
"You got it. I'll look into it and report back. You keep an eye on her. If she feels anything amiss, you need to be there for her. Understood?"
"Yes, understood. Thank you, Yoongi," Jungkook said, relief flooding over him as they hung up.
