Anupama got ready and went to Malti Devi's dance academy: Nrityakala Academy.
She murmured to herself, placing a hand on her heart: Kanha ji...plez...sab theek kijiyega.
She informed the pretty lady at the front desk that she wants to meet Malti Devi. The enquiry desk called one of the students and asked her to guide Anupama.

As Anupama entered the academy, she was spellbound by its vastness. It was an elaborate and well-decorated space, lit with natural light. A beautiful chandelier adorned the center stage. The duplex walls were filled with accolades, certificates, and medals won. Anupama's eyes widened in surprise, and her heart raced like a racehorse.
The student introduced her to Malti Devi: GuruMaa, ye Anupama ji hain, aapse milna chahti hain...
Malti Devi turned and scanned her from top to bottom. Anupama, being a classical dancer and technically her daughter-in-law, touched her feet: Pranam GuruMaa.
Malti Devi blessed her: Khush raho...
Anupama added meekly: Bachpan se hi maine aap ke baare mein itna suna hai...
Malti Devi interrupted her: Nritya kya hai...
Anupama looked at her in confusion: Ji... She stuttered: Main samjhi n...
Malti Devi interrupted again: Tann aur mann ka taal-mel...
Anupama looked at Malti Devi as she continued: Jo tum bol rahi ho aur jo tumhare hriday mein hai, dono mein is samay taal-mel nahi hai...
Malti Devi gestured for the students to leave the arena. Soon, they were alone.
Anupama knitted her brows but then a small smile appeared on her face. She found the first glimpse of Anuj in Malti Devi. A tear dropped from her eye as this is the first time she has come across Anuj's roots, closest to the fragments of his existence.
She hesitated, then pulled out the undelivered letters from her handbag and handed them to Malti Devi.
Malti Devi exhaled deeply, staring at the letters. Her expression was blank, and a void could be seen in her eyes. She was unable to comprehend. After a moment's thought, she handed the letters back: In khatto ka mujhse koi lena dena nahi hai... Na hi main bhejne wale ko jaanti hoon, na hi pahunchane wale ko...
Anupama narrowed her gaze: Lagta hai aapke lafzon aur mann ne bhi taal-mel kho diya, GuruMaa...
Malti Devi looked at her, annoyed: Jo rishta kabhi bana hi nahi, usse zabardasti mujhpe daalne ki koshish mat karo...
Anupama's heartbeat skipped upon realizing that Malti Devi knew about Anuj but still chose to remain ignorant: Beta hai wo aapka. Aapke maanne ya na maanne se ye sach nahi badal jayega ki aapne usse janam diya hai...
Malti Devi held her head high: Sirf janam dena hi sab kuch nahi hota. Mann se maa banna bhi zaroori tha, jo main kabhi nahi bani... Maine apna jeevan kala ki sadhna mein laga diya hai...Main kisi ki Maa nahi hun.
