Dick. ✖️

"Are you sure you didn't see anyone suspicious?" I asked the person on the other line again. I've been asking the same question the whole time but it didn't hurt to ask again.

"No, sir. If we did see someone suspicious, it would have been reported." The mall officer told me, for the fourth time. He sounded a bit annoyed, but I could also hear some pity in his voice after I told him the situation.

"Thanks." I sighed as I hung up the phone. I was positive she only went to the mall that day, she would've told me if she went somewhere else. Especially considering the situation she was in.

"Dick." I heard Bruce call, with a bit of concern in his voice; something that was rare for him.

I put down the phone and headed towards the living room where he was seated in front of the TV. "Yeah?"

"I found Valerie." He un-paused the television and the news from today played out on the gigantic screen.

It started out with the news reporter talking about a recent violent robbery, and I already had an idea where this was headed.

No matter how much I hoped that it wouldn't be what I thought, reality quickly hit me when it showed a shot of Valerie attacking a couple of guards as Joker grabbed as much money as he possibly could.

"I knew we should have never trusted her." Bruce angrily told me. But I knew her, I knew her better than anyone else possibly could. This wasn't her choice, I knew it wasn't.

"He's forcing her to do it." I told him as I watched the scene unfold. No matter how much I wanted to turn it off and erase the memory from my head, I couldn't. I watched and watched as she injured multiple cops, for Joker.

It quickly panned to a shot of Joker and Valerie, in what looked like they were surrendering. Valerie turned to look at the camera, but I hated that I wasn't able to see her face with that horrid mask she had on.

I turned it off before it could get worse and tried to refrain from breaking anything in anger. "This isn't her!" Pointing at the blank screen, I practically yelled at Bruce. "I know her, and she would only do anything like this against her will."

He shook his head, ignoring what I was saying. Just because he couldn't trust people doesn't mean that I shouldn't. I knew Valerie, I lived with her. She has better morals than this.

"Bruce," he looked at me and I basically almost begged for him to still help me. "Please. At least, do it for me."

Sighing, he stood up from his seat. "If she isn't who you say she is and she really is some sort of criminal, I'm not hesitating to put her in the Asylum."
