CHAPTER 19

Erix had an incredible way of turning me into a bell pepper in a matter of seconds.

His gaze was fixed on mine, then he came closer and placed a kiss on my forehead.

ㅡAnyway, what are we going to do today?ㅡ I asked, trying to hide the change in color on my face.

ㅡHmm... Secret.ㅡ He was suspenseful.

I made a face and he laughed. Erix intertwined our hands and we started walking down the sidewalk.

The weather was pleasant. It was cool, the sun shining in a way that didn't burn us.

With each step we took, I became more curious. Erix was having fun with this.

We stopped walking and then I looked ahead. I was amazed to see several cherry trees in rows. I looked at Erix and smiled widely.

Seconds later, Diana appeared holding a small cake. Chris was by her side. He started clapping and singing happy birthday with Diana.

ㅡHappy birthday, Faye!ㅡ The three of them said in unison. I clasped my hands and closed my eyes to make a wish. When I opened them, they looked at me curiously.

ㅡWhat's wrong? I can't tell you, or it won't work.ㅡ I laughed.

We spent the afternoon together. We laughed and talked while we ate the cake. When we finished, we walked and took several photos under the cherry trees.

A month later...

ㅡMa, will you be on duty today?ㅡ I asked. She appeared at the door of my room and made a thoughtful face.

ㅡIt's very likely that you will. Why?

ㅡI might be back a little late today. I'm going with the guys to that new restaurant that opened on the other street.ㅡ I said and she smiled. ㅡWhat?

ㅡNothing.ㅡ He laughed.ㅡI'm just happy to see my daughter happy.

It was my turn to laugh. I finished packing my backpack and left the house.

I ran into Erix when I did so. He smiled his smile that made me melt inside and intertwined our hands.

ㅡToday is the last day of the tests for this month, are you confident about your grade?ㅡI decided to ask.

It was Friday, a month had passed and we had already done our tests, only the last one was left, which was the dreaded math test.

ㅡOf course I am, I studied with the best teacher.ㅡErix replied.

ㅡHmm, and was this teacher very intelligent?ㅡI arched my eyebrow.

ㅡLet me see...ㅡHe stopped in front of me and analyzed me.ㅡSmart and beautifulㅡhe said. I had to laugh at his words.

When we arrived at school, we went straight to class. We didn't go by car because I told Erix that I wanted to walk with him. So, we agreed to leave home early.

ㅡGood morning, everyoneㅡhe greeted the math teacher. ㅡBefore we start the test, I need to give you a heads up. Next Friday we're going to camp. The principal said that you should only take what's necessary so as not to take up too much space on the bus. ㅡAs he said that, he gave Zara and her friends a narrowed look. Last year, they probably took half of their house on the trip. ㅡWe'll leave here at 10:00 to get there early. Don't be late, or you'll be left behind.

ㅡAre we only going to be there on Friday, Saturday and Sunday?ㅡ Paul asked, a boy who wore glasses a little bigger than normal, had thick eyebrows and hair neatly slicked back. He was labeled a nerd because of his way of being.

ㅡYes. Starting on Monday it's summer vacation.ㅡAs if it had been agreed, everyone smiled broadly in celebration. The teacher handed out the tests and, a little nervously, I started to solve mine. Fortunately, I managed to answer all the questions.

ㅡI thought that test would be harder.ㅡDiana said. We were on break, sitting at the table debating the answers to the test questions. I noticed that Chris couldn't stop looking at her with a certain admiration. I looked at Erix, wondering if I should ask them if they were dating or something. However, Erix smiled and shook her head in disapproval, as if she had read my thoughts.

ㅡAnyway, I’m really excited for camp!ㅡShe continued. ㅡCan I stop by your house so we can come together?

ㅡBut weren’t we going together?ㅡ Chris intervened, looking a little disappointed.

ㅡWho said that?

Diana frowned.

ㅡYou.

ㅡ I don’t remember that.

I wanted to laugh. Diana and Chris looked so cute together.

Erix intertwined our hands under the table, resting both on his lap and started playing with my fingers. I smiled at him.

ㅡSee? They’ll probably come together and you’ll be the third wheel.ㅡ Chris said and smiled victoriously when he saw Diana giving in.

ㅡOkay, okay.ㅡ I'm coming with you, you bore. ㅡDiana snorted.

Friday, camp day.

I finished packing my bag and went straight outside to find Erix. He was saying goodbye to Alice and Raya. I approached them.

ㅡGood morning!ㅡ I said and smiled.

ㅡGood morning!ㅡThey replied in unison.

ㅡWell, let's go. See you on Sunday!ㅡ We said goodbye and headed towards school.

ㅡIs this your first time going to a camp?ㅡErix asked, after intertwining our hands.

ㅡYeah... I've never been to one because I didn't think it was fun. Also because I didn't have any friends, so I just stayed home.ㅡ I replied. Suddenly, the question I asked myself on Sunday came to mind. ㅡ Erix, did I do something I shouldn't have done last Saturday?

Erix thought for a moment. And then he smiled.

ㅡ Of course not,ㅡ he said. I let out a sigh of relief. ㅡ You just hugged a lamppost, spun around until you fell and climbed a tree. Nothing major.

His ironic tone only made me even more embarrassed.

ㅡ And what did I drink to end up like that?

ㅡ Energy drink.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the information.

ㅡ By the way, why did you look drunk? That didn't even have alcohol in it. ㅡ Erix scratched his head.

ㅡ I don't know. Maybe it went to my head and made me crazier than I already am.

He laughed and I lightly hit his arm.

"Hey! Don't laugh at my disaster!"

"Hi, lovebirds!" Diana greeted. She seemed exhausted, but she kept a wide smile on her face.

"What kind of mummy face is that Diana?" Chris asked as he approached us.

"Go see if I'm around the corner, Chris."

"Weren't you guys going to come together?" I questioned.

Diana looked at Chris with disgust and rolled her eyes.

"Can you believe that this being made me wake up super early just to charge my cell phone? He called me at four in the morning just for that! My cell phone was already charging! I even lost sleep. Do you hate me, Chris?" ㅡ Diana stared at Chris, clearly angry.

ㅡ I just wanted to hear your voice ㅡ Chris said quietly. But we all heard it and I could see Diana blush in seconds.

Erix and I looked at each other and smiled at the same time. We already knew what this would lead to.
