Chapter 5

I got up the next morning and checked my phone. I had two texts from Maya.

Maya: Hey :P

Maya: Want to go to school together? 

Me: Sure!!

Maya: Cool!! I'll pick you up.

After I was done texting Maya, I set my phone down and picked out an outfit.

I put on a cute graphic tee that had a bunny with glasses and a bow tie. I had a skirt with houses on it and tall black boots. (Outfit above). I grabbed my phone and walked to the front door.

The buzzer went off. "Maya" Maya said. 

"Come up." I said as I grabbed my bag.

"Hey!" She said as she opened the door.

"Let's go." I said. "Bye mom! Bye Dad!" 

"So do you have a project in L.A. to?" I asked as we were walking to the subway.

"Yeah. I'm guessing you have one to." She said.

"Yeah. We have to get to know our partners and write what they are really like. My partner is Farkle." I told her.

"OMG! I would rather die than be you." She said as we walked onto the subway.

"He is not that bad. He actually seems very nice." I say to her.

"Wow." Is all she said.

The subway car started to take off. I was so happy because the populars were not on it.

"Popular free." Maya said reading my mind.

"That's exactly what I was thinking." I looked  around and noticed the new kid sitting in the corner.

"Hey Maya, do you know the new kid?" I asked her as I pointed to him.

"No, never seen him before." She said.

"Farkle said he was an outcast and that he got bullied a lot. I'm going to go talk to him." I said as I was walking towards him.

Lucas's POV

I sat down in the corner of the subway. I sat there hoping the popular kids wouldn't get on. The car started to move. Yay! I thought. Something finally worked out how I wanted it.

I was sitting there hoping everything at school would be fine today, when a girl walked over to me and sat down. She wasn't a popular so I might be okay.

"Hi, my name is Riley." She said as she held out her hand.

"Lucas." I said as I shook her hand.

"Nice to meet you. I saw you at school yesterday. You kinda fell on top of me." She said as she giggled. It sounded so cute. Wait, I did not just think that.

"Sorry about that." Was all I could say. Now that I really looked at her, she was beautiful. Stop thinking that! 

"It's okay. How come you were running?" She asked me.

"I had to go home." I said. She looked confused but she knew she shouldn't ask any more.

"Okay. Well that's my friend Maya over there. Can I see your schedule?" She asked.

"Sure." I said as I grabbed it out of my bag. I handed it to her.

"Cool! We have all the same classes together!" She said. "How come I haven't seen you before?" She asked.

"My first day was yesterday and I was talking to the principal the whole time." I said. I didn't even mean to say that much. I couldn't stop words from flowing out of my mouth when I was talking to her.

"Oh. Okay. We should hang out at school. You can sit with us at lunch if you would like." She said.

"I would like that." I said as the subway stopped and the three of us walked into school.

Missy, the most popular girl, walked up to me when we walked into school.

"Looks like the outcast picked up a few." She said. One of her friends shoved me against the wall and kicked me in the knee. I collapsed to the ground as pain shot up my leg.

"Leave him alone!" Riley shouted.

"What did you say weakling?" Missy said.

A guy came over and shoved her back hard. A different kid put out his foot and she tripped.

"Riley!" I screamed. Her head crashed into the wall and she didn't move.

"Maya get a teacher!!" I screamed as I bent down next to her. I checked for a pulse. It was there but it was faint.

"Riley please wake up." I whispered.
