Welcome back to the 19th century. Westward expansion is well underway, and your brother/brothers have gone west to make their fortunes and a home to send for the rest of the family.
One day they send a letter asking for you to come, and Help in their operation, hunting buffalo or rounding up maverick cattle or something of the like.
You make it out west, ready to do your share of cooking and what not around the camp. You soon meet their friend, a sullen quiet man by the name of jack taylor
