Alexia
That evening we all sat together at the big dining table. Luca was seated on my Right Side while Gina sat on my left side. Although the dinner was going well and Alex and my brothers were talking, just as my father, Ace and Amara did. Gina was telling me about so many things that I could even concentrate on them.
Yet something was off.
My gaze went to my father every few minutes. He seemed nervous while Amara seemed angry. They were talking quietly now and then, which caused suspicion from me and Luca. I could feel his gaze going toward them now and then too.
"We need to go shopping and ohh next week is this charity gala we are going to attend, maybe you and your family can come too. Ohh we need to get you a dress for that then" I nodded at Gina's words, turning my attention back toward my plate.
Soon the chatter started to die down and when I looked up again my fathers gaze was on me. He looked even more guilty now that he did before and when ace raised his glass and started to speak I knew why.
"Matteo and I talked. This whole situation is getting out of hand. His house was invaded while our drug shipments were messed with" Ace started and we all looked at him.
Amara placed her fork down on the table with much more force than needed and leaned back in her chair crossing her arms. "Why did I not know that" Luca asked his father sounding irritated. "Because I chose not to tell you" he said back and his gaze fell on me.
"Ace and I came to the conclusion that there is only one good way which would work fast enough and would ensure us safety and security, more than anything" my father gaze laid on me and I saw the guilt again.
"Just spit it out damn it" Luca said, his voice tight. No one said a thing after that. "Damn it ace. Luca alexia, since one hour ago you two are engaged and will be married in one month here in Italy. That's their big plan" Amara said, pushing her chair away while getting up.
She slapped ace behind the head hard and then left the room. I sat there still, not moving. My gaze still fixed on her chair. No one dared to say a word, even Luca next to me was quiet. "Is this a joke" he then asked after a few minutes.
"Luca" his father started, but Luca raised his voice again. "Is this a fucking joke father" my gaze moved to the man next to me and then toward his father and mine.
Ace features were tight and you could see the way his jaw clenched. "It's not. Matteo and I just sighed the contract before dinner. You two are engaged" Ace told him the exact same thing his mother had already said to us all.
"Dad. Please tell me you did not just sell your daughter to the DeAngelos" my oldest brother was angry and my father was not even able to met my eyes. I felt a movement next to me and just turned my head as Luca pushed away from the table.
He got up and left the room without saying a thing. I pushed my chair back to and without another look at my father I left the room too and walked outside of the house. The sun had just started to set and from the terrace I could see the sea.
I heard footsteps behind me and then my name. "Alexia, I'm-" my father tried to say as I turned around. When he took a step forward I took on back, trying to get as far away as possible from him. "I'm sorry" he then said and his eyes started to shine with tears.
I shook my head and forced myself to met his gaze. "You gave my hand away. Without my consent" I told him, my voice tight and laced with pain. "I know, there was no other way" he tried telling me but I could not believe him.
"There was no way easier than this one" i was hurt. My father, the one I had wished for all my life had just ruined that. Any chance we had of becoming a family of getting to know each other was just gone now. How could I trust someone who would do something like that to me.
"There is something between the two of you. We all have seen it. Please just let it in. That is why we want him and you to marry, because you two are stronger together" his words sounded honest and I knew that he was right. But I could not accept it.
"You may be right, but forcing us into something like that. A marriage. That's insane and we will never forgive you, I will never forgive you" I whispered the last part and watched as pain laced my father features.
I turned around and walked down the stairs on the side of the terrace, trying to get away from him. The gardens have already began to darken as I walked further inside, making my way toward the small greenhouse at the far end of it.
I sat down at the steps and wrapped my armes around my legs, pulling them up toward my chest. From this moment on I was engaged to Luca DeAngelo. We would get married and everything would change. I was not sure if I was ready for that.
Because Luca and me, we were Like Fire. Together we burned much stringer than alone. And we would burn everyone who would get into our way.
Maybe that was a good thing.
