Nayantara's POV
After the conversation with Abhimanyu ended, we all returned to our respective duties. Anirudh had some work to discuss with a few officials, Maasa was spending time with the guest, and I came to my chamber to rest after discussing some important matters with the ladies.
It was already afternoon when Kashmira entered with a plate of food. As everyone was busy and I felt too tired to move around, I decided to eat in my chamber. Anirudh was busy with his own matters.
I moved toward the couch and settled down as Kashmira served me the lunch.
"Did you eat?" I asked, taking a bite of the food.
She shook her head. "Not yet."
"Come on, eat with me." I invited her, but she shook her head.
"No, I will eat after some time."
"It's already afternoon, Kashmira. Serve yourself a plate too." I said, my voice firm.
She sighed but nodded, starting to serve herself a plate. As we ate, we engaged in some random conversation, but suddenly, I remembered the discussion from breakfast.
"I have a news for you," I chimed in, my tone playful.
She raised her brows as she took a sip of water. "What?"
"It's a good news."
She looked at me, confused, as I smiled mischievously.
"Your biggest enemy from childhood is getting married," I announced, standing up excitedly.
Her frown deepened, but before she could react, a look of shock flashed across her face.
"What?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes, Abhimanyu is getting married, I suppose," I said, sitting back down beside her and grabbing her arm.
"The guests who are staying in the kingdom, proposed a marriage proposal for him. They want their daughter, Princess Samyukta, to marry Abhimanyu."
I noticed her body getting tensed as she went silent, and I saw something in her eyes, a mix of surprise, confusion, and... perhaps something more. She lowered her eyes and clenched her fist.
"What happened?"
I asked, noticing her weird reaction. I thought she would be happy knowing he was getting married and now no one would annoy her.
"N... nothing," she replied after a long pause, her gaze shifting away. I could tell she was hiding something.
I blinked, still unsure of her reaction. "Umm... Did Abhi-did he agree?"
She asked, her voice shaky.
I shook my head slowly.
"No, I mean yes. Like first he refused to get married but then Maasa and Anirudh made him understand and asked him to meet Samyukta once and then take his decision. So, I think he is going to meet her first then will give his final decision."
Kashmira nodded slowly, but I noticed her knuckles turning white from how tightly she was gripping her skirt.
I gently touched her hand, and she immediately loosened her grip.
"Are you okay, Kashmira?"
She nodded and smiled, but her smile was forced. It was a strained, almost awkward smile.
"Yes, I'm fine. It's just... I pity the woman he'll marry. He's such a rude person," she said, trying to laugh it off.
I gave her an awkward smile, not knowing how to respond to that. Her tone sounded insincere, and it made me uneasy. Suddenly, she stood up, collecting the plates.
