*The next day on the boat*

The wind carried a salt-heavy chill as the boat neared Vonetis Island, its silhouette rising like a jagged scar from the sea. Harith stood at the bow, arms crossed, his sapphire eyes fixed on the distant cliffs. He hadn't spoken much since they left the mainland, his thoughts tangled in the prophecy's shadow and what it might mean for him-for all of them.

Behind him, Granger sat with his back against the side rail, absentmindedly tuning his violin-shaped Death Sonata weapon. The low, haunting notes that drifted out didn't ease the tension, but they felt honest-like music that understood fear without flinching.

"You're quiet," Alucard muttered, breaking the silence. He stood beside Harith, sword slung across his back like it was part of him. His golden hair whipped in the sea breeze, and his expression was unreadable. "You usually fill the silence with questions."

Harith didn't answer at first. The ocean stretched endlessly around them, but the island felt like it was watching.

"I don't think the island wants us here," Harith finally said, voice low. "I don't think whatever's waiting will be kind."

Granger stopped playing.

"Good," he said flatly, "I'm tired of kind."

As the boat creaked toward the shore, the fog thickened, swirling in unnatural shapes. Vonetis wasn't on any map, not anymore. It had been swallowed by legend and fear-spoken of only in whispers. But the prophecy led them here. And Harith knew, deep down, this was where answers began... or everything ended.

The jungle loomed before them as they stepped off the boat, vines thick as ropes hanging like curtains from the canopy above. The air was hot and damp, buzzing with strange insect calls and whispers that didn't belong to animals. The ground squelched under their boots, thick with mud and fallen leaves, and each step felt like an invitation deeper into something ancient.

"This place is alive," Alucard muttered, sword drawn.

"Or cursed," Granger added, his eyes sweeping the shadows.

They pushed forward, carving a path through thorned brush and moss-covered ruins. Harith felt it in his chest-like the trees were breathing, watching. The jungle didn't just grow, it waited. But he didn't stop. He couldn't.

After hours that bled into each other, they reached a clearing where the light fell in filtered gold through the treetops. A figure stood there-serene, motionless, as if he had been waiting.

"Suyou," Harith whispered. Shocked by the fact that he had never seen him, but somehow knew his name.

The sage turned, robes flowing like water despite the still air. His face was calm, ageless. His eyes, however, saw everything.

"I knew you would come," Suyou said. "The vessel calls to those who were meant to find it."

Harith stepped forward. "Then you know what I'm looking for."

"I do." Suyou's gaze flicked toward the jungle's heart. "But the object you seek is not merely lost-it is protected. It chose its bearer long ago. Her name is Zhuxin, and she guards it not out of greed, but necessity."

Granger scoffed softly. "So where is she?"

Suyou lifted his hand, pointing toward a distant ridge swallowed by fog. "That way. But be warned... the closer you get, the heavier the truth becomes."

Harith nodded slowly, but the unease in his chest only grew. The trees seemed to darken. The birds had stopped singing.

Alucard was already stepping forward. Granger followed, silent. But Harith lingered.

The air... it wasn't just still. It hurt. Like it knew who he was. What he carried.

"Suyou," he asked quietly, "Why does it feel like the jungle is... mourning?"

The sage's expression shifted-soft, almost pitying. "Because not all who come searching leave whole."

Harith looked ahead. The path was open. But the weight in the air wasn't just warning-it was grieving. Something was waiting... and it already knew his name.

As the trio pressed on, the jungle seemed to recede slightly-less aggressive, but still pulsing with unseen life. Harith walked slower than the others now, lost in thought. The vision lingered like smoke in his lungs.

"Harley..." he murmured.

He didn't tell Alucard or Granger what he saw. How could he? The idea that Harley, the one who had always been his guiding light, may have cast a spell on him for reasons unknown-perhaps to bend fate, perhaps to protect him from something darker-it weighed heavily on him.

If the spell is real... Harith thought, then maybe everything between us... wasn't.

The breeze carried the scent of ash, as if the island itself mourned what was to come. They had almost reached the base of the distant ridge Suyou pointed toward, but Harith slowed to a stop.

"What if we ended this now?" he asked suddenly.

Alucard turned, confused. "What?"

Harith's voice shook, but he didn't care. "What if we don't find Zhuxin? What if the vessel isn't worth what it's already taking from us? What if... saving Harley means letting all of this go?"

Granger studied him quietly, the shadows of old grief behind his calm expression.

"You'll never forgive yourself if you don't finish this," Granger said. "You love him. I can see that."

Harith didn't respond. He just looked back-through the trees, through time, to the library, to the moment everything may have changed.

Meanwhile, back at the sanctuary-

Estes hovered over Harley's bed, sweat beading on his brow as he traced complex sigils into the air. Magic flickered from his palms, weaving around Harley's pale, restless form.

The boy's breathing was growing shallower, then erratic. His pulse spiked, and his eyes fluttered behind closed lids.

"He's slipping," Estes whispered, panic barely contained. "The bond... something's affecting it."

The spells he cast were now desperate, layers upon layers of healing and containment magic. But it was like trying to seal a crack in the earth.

Harley's hand twitched.

Back in the jungle, Harith felt the tremor in the air. He clutched his chest.

They had to move forward. But for the first time, he wasn't sure if he was trying to save Harley-or himself.
