Zhuxin stood tall, graceful in her stillness, as if she had always been there-waiting.

"Let me ask you something, Harith," she said, voice soft but echoing in the silent chamber. "Would you choose to save someone you love... or save yourself?"

The words hit Harith like a storm wind. His mind staggered under the weight of the question. He opened his mouth to speak, but no answer came. His heart raced, caught in the web of memories, guilt, and impossible decisions. Zhuxin stepped closer, her steps soundless, the butterflies swirling around her like whispers of fate.

"I see hesitation," she said, her gaze never leaving his. "But hesitation is human. Even the brave tremble at the edge of sacrifice."

Her fingers brushed the air gently, and the scene shifted. Harith blinked-and suddenly, he was no longer alone in the palace.

Granger and Alucard appeared in a vision, walking side by side through the verdant remains of the jungle path. Exhausted, but alive. They had made their way back to the boat that looked them to the Land of Serenity, where Queen Irithel awaited them with news. Her words were grave but hopeful. They needed to regroup. Time was of the essence, but for now, they were safe.

Back in the palace, Harith's throat felt dry, and still, he could not speak. Zhuxin tilted her head. "You do not need to say it. You've already made your choice, again and again, without knowing."

As if summoned by her words, another vision bloomed in the air-this time of Harley. He lay pale and still, sweat beading on his brow, with Queen Silvana pacing nearby and Estes whispering complex spells over him. The boy's condition had worsened. Magic spiraled in fragile lines around him, like strings fraying at their ends. He was slipping further.

Harith's knees nearly gave. A sob stuck in his throat, the urge to run to Harley overwhelming-but he was still here, trapped in this cruel palace of illusions.

Zhuxin turned away from the vision and toward him once more. Her eyes shimmered with a dangerous softness.

"You blame yourself," she said. "You think you let it all happen. But the truth, Harith, is far more complicated. The curse within your soul... it is not simply a mark. It is a second chance. A dark tether. When the spell was unleashed, it searched for a host to ensure its survival. Your soul... compatible, pure, unguarded-became its refuge. You are not the vessel. But you are the one it chose to conjoin with."

Harith's breath caught in his chest.

"You mean... it lives in me now?"

Zhuxin nodded. "Its survival depends on you. And so does Harley's. The magic within you is the only thing keeping him alive. But should you give it-should you tear it from yourself-you will not survive. The curse will not allow you to share its essence without claiming your life in return."

The world tilted.

Harith staggered back, his hands trembling. He felt as though his soul had shattered into a million pieces. The images of Harley, of their laughter, their arguments, their journey together-rushed through him like knives.

"So if I save him... I die?"

"Yes."

A silence settled like ash.

For the first time in his life, Harith didn't feel like a hero, or a soldier, or even a mage. He felt like a boy, broken and lost.

Zhuxin said nothing more. She let the weight of the truth crush him.

And Harith...

Harith stood in the middle of a palace that gleamed with light and butterflies and impossible beauty-feeling nothing but pain.
