The moment Harith relaxes after making the wish, a blinding but gentle light envelops the room. The lantern cracks softly-like porcelain kissed by time-and from it, the final butterfly emerges. Unlike the others, this one glows with threads of gold and soft hues of pale violet. The air thickens with the scent of lilies and honey, petals blooming midair as the butterfly hovers between Harith and Harley.
The wind picks up inside the sealed room, tousling Harith's hair, lifting the petals like whispers of magic. Harith gasps, instinctively shielding Harley, trying to understand what's happening-until the petals swirl into a delicate storm and the butterfly rests briefly on Harley's forehead.
That's when the room bursts into a powerful but beautiful ruckus-magic rattling the windows, the door pulsing with ancient energy.
Estes and the others feel it immediately. They rush toward the room. Estes breaks the seal with urgency, the Queen just behind him. They open the door-
And the magic throws them all back a step.
They witness a room of wild petals and radiant winds. At its center, Harley, slowly stirring. And Harith, wide-eyed, reaching for him.
But before anyone can speak, a final pulse of magic strikes. The butterfly spirals upward, and in a flash of shimmering air, Harith vanishes from the room.
A trembling silence settled after the lantern's final light faded.
In the heart of the room, Harley stirred, lashes fluttering weakly as he drew his first steady breath in what felt like an eternity. The petals still danced softly in the air, carrying the scent of lilies and honey, clinging to his skin like the touch of a dream. He blinked slowly, his gaze unfocused at first, then widening as he realized he was alive.
His body ached-deep, unfamiliar pain lacing through his limbs and chest-but it was secondary to the hollow space beside him.
"Harith?" he whispered, barely audible. His eyes scanned the room. Estes stepped closer, hand to his heart, tears swelling behind his silver lashes.
Harley didn't answer. His gaze flicked to the window instinctively, to the outside-and there, beneath the grand tree, he saw a figure motionless at its base.
His heart stopped.
"Harith!"
Everyone in the room jolted as Harley forced himself up, staggering from the bed. "Harley, no!" Estes called out, rushing forward. "You must rest-your body can't-"
But Harley wasn't listening.
With a flick of his wrist, golden energy surged through his fingers, and he vanished in a shimmer of magic, reappearing at the base of the tree, barely landing on his feet. Pain wracked his body, but he kept going, slowly and determinedly limping toward the unconscious figure.
Above, from the high window, the others watched-eyes wide, hands to their mouths, tears falling freely. Queen Silvana clenched the railing, a quiet prayer on her lips.
Harley collapsed to his knees beside Harith.
He reached for him, placing a shaking hand over Harith's heart.
"Please..." he whispered, his voice cracking, "Please wake up..."
There was no response.
He pressed closer, his forehead touching Harith's shoulder. "Don't do this to me. You can't- You gave everything. You were supposed to live. We were supposed to live... together."
His voice broke into sobs, breath uneven, cheeks soaked with tears.
Then-
A soft flutter.
A butterfly, luminous and pale as moonlight, landed gently on Harley's hand that still rested on Harith's chest.
Harley stilled.
From the stillness of the air came Zhuxin's voice, gentle and warm, echoing through the butterfly.
"Love this selflessly is rare... Harley. You've witnessed what a wish can do-but remember, magic is only a thread. It's the heart that chooses whether it holds or lets go."
The butterfly glowed brighter, folding its wings, and pressed softly into Harith's chest-vanishing into light.
Harley stared, lips parted, his expression still, quiet... and suddenly-
A breath.
Harith's chest rose.
Then another.
His eyes opened slowly, vision swimming-until he saw Harley's face above him, tear-stained, trembling, and all too real.
"...Harley?" Harith whispered, almost in disbelief.
Without hesitation, Harith sat up and pulled him into his arms, holding him tight, as if afraid he'd disappear again. Harley winced slightly in pain.
Harith immediately loosened his grip. "I'm sorry- I'm so sorry-"
But Harley surged forward, wrapping his arms around Harith's neck, sobbing freely against him.
"You idiot..." Harley whispered through tears. "You stupid, beautiful idiot..."
Harith smiled with his own tears rolling down, cupping Harley's face. "You're alive... you're really alive..."
Harley stared into his eyes for just a moment, then Harith leaned in slowly-and kissed him.
A kiss full of longing, heartbreak, and finally-peace.
The world faded.
There were no petals. No pain. No time.
Just them.
Only them.
To be continued ...
