It was a normal weekday morning as usual in the Ol' Collin household. Laura would get dressed in her casual attire, go downstairs and grab a quick snack. As she passes through the kitchen, she saw her father. She used to get startled when she saw her dad passed out, but now it's just good ol' nature. Every morning, it was a routine to snicker at her drunken father as he was passed out on the floor with a glass of beer in his hand. It's pretty sad that this was the norm' for her, but it is what it is. Then, she would head off to school as normal.

In the mornings, Laura always met up with her best friend Lilly before school. She was always looking for her protection from all the preppy bitches and assholes that roamed her big high school.

Laura felt bad that Lilly had to do that for her, but she was so insecure, she would let anyone walk all over her. Laura has been bullied her whole life, and her insecurities didn't help her case at all. All the past bullies eventually made her believe she was worthless and ugly even though Lilly and her past teachers disagreed. Of course her teachers disagreed, they're teachers. Other people who have heard about this, teachers, students or Lilly, they didn't know why. Laura really wasn't the type to get bullied? There's a type? No, no.... That's not it. Laura....If you found her in the hall, yes, she was quiet, but she didn't look like she would get teased. To be honest, it looked like she belonged on the cheerleading squad but more average looking. She didn't wear a lot of makeup but picture wise, she was very pretty.

Laura slipped out of her house and started walking to the school. As she approached the school, she was surprised to see that Lilly wasn't there. She could feel her hands start to shake as she walked closer to the school. She bit her light pink glossed lips and walked closer and closer....

"Where are you going, princess?" It was the second most popular guy in school. He had short brown hair, was 6'2, had a deep husky voice and always wore football jerseys over a tight t-shirt and jeans. He was slim and muscular and loved to mess with Laura whenever he could.

"Well, there's this thing called school. I'm kind of...forced to go to it," Laura said, starting to walk past him but was stopped.

He grabbed her arm and pulled her close to him as he ran his fingers through her hair. He smiled and leaned over and whispered in her ear, "You're so insecure, you'd probably let the first guy you see get in bed with you."

"Stop," Laura said, trying to pull away from him. Unfortunately, he didn't let go.

"Why? Do you want to run to your bodyguard because you can't stand up for yourself?"
She was silent.

"That's what I thought," he said, pushing her against the wall. He started to kiss down her neck, but then something made him jump back.

"Hey!" Someone screamed at them. He turned around, and Laura sighed a sigh of relief when she saw Lilly.

 "What do you want?"

"I'm here to take my best friend back if you don't mind," Lilly said, grabbing Laura's arm and looking at him up and down. "You're not good enough for us anyways," Lilly said, snickering and walking into the school. Once they were alone, Lilly turned to Laura. "What the hell happened back there?"

Laura shrugged. "Just a normal guy picking on me. No big deal," Laura replied, shrugging her shoulders.

Lilly sighed and put her hands on Laura's shoulders. "Look, you're my best friend no matter what, and I love being there for you...."

"Lilly, I know. I need to learn how to stand up for myself. I get it. I've been treated like shit my whole life. My mom left with my brother, all my dad is is a drunken idiot, so I never had anyone teach me how to stand my ground," Laura said, taking a deep breath. "I wish I could stand up to these jerks, but I just can't right now."

Lilly stepped back and shook her head. "I'm sorry, Laura. I understand how hard that must have been. I'll be there for you as much as possible, but do me a favor and at least try to stand up for yourself if I'm not around."

Laura nodded and looked at her. "I'll try, but I'm not making any promises."

Lilly smiled and hugged Laura as they went to their lockers to grab their things for their next classes. "Plus, that guy is so freakin' stupid and ugly. You deserve so much better than that."

Laura just shrugged and went to her locker to grab her books for her first two classes. If you say so.
