Cindy's Point of View

"Why are you standing in front of me?" I asked, placing my hands on my hips.

It didn't matter that he was probably a foot taller than me. I could be very intimidating when I wanted to be.

"They told me you were dead," He said, his voice still low as a frown creased his forehead.

"What do you mean?" I frowned.

"The pack," He began talking in a rushed tone, "The social workers. The court. The judge. The police. Everyone! They said that you, mom, and dad died!"

He pulled me into his arms, crushing me to him.

I was speechless.

While I thought my brother had died, he had thought I had died.

He pulled back, allowing me to breath.

I smiled slightly at him. His eyes were still wide with shock and curiosity.

"You've grown up so much," He mumbled, looking me from head to toe with a slight smile.

He grabbed my hand and began pulling me towards the back of the house.

"I am taking your mate away from you, Alpha," Derrick called over his shoulder to Pierce, "We have some catching up to do."

Pierce nodded stiffly, sending me a wink. He chuckled lowly when he saw my blush before Derrick pulled me outside, instantly heading towards the woods at the back of the yard.

"Your room still has all of the same things in it," I shrugged, "Mom and Dad didn't want to clean out anything. I guess they thought you were coming back or something."

Derrick nodded, looking straight ahead as we continued walking.

"How is mom?" He asked quietly.

"She's getting better," I smiled, "Her and dad are having their 'alone' time while I'm away."

Both Derrick and I shuddered at the thought of what they were doing at the palace.

"What about you?" He asked, his arm going around my waist as he hoisted me up, over a fallen tree, which I didn't see. Luckily he did, or else I would've snapped my ankle.

He sat me down on my feet gently before removing his arm from my waist.

"I'm good," I smiled slightly at the thought of Pierce, "Pierce is my mate. My true soulmate. I found a mate, though. He was sweet and nice at first. Then he changed one day and I never spoke to him again."

Derrick nodded. Thankfully, asked no questions about it.

"Did you and Pierce just mate?" Derrick asked, turning his smirk to me.

I bit my lip as I blushed, but shook my head.

Derrick chuckled as we came to a stop. I nearly fell face first over the small cliff and into the rushing water, but Derrick caught my wrist before I could do so.

"You do realize we have wolves patrolling these areas who don't know who you are yet," Derrick said, the stupid smirk still on his face, "And if you fall in the lake you can be considered a potential threat to the pack because of your clumsiness."

I rolled my eyes and stuck out my tongue out at him, but saw the truth in his words as I felt multiple pairs of eyes on me.

"Pierce will kill them if they do anything to me," I mumbled as I looked around.

I breathed in when I spotted a wolf crouched down a few yards away, seeing how it's coat blended in with the forest leaves.

I released the breath shakily as I saw the muscles tense in the wolves form.

Where was Pierce when you needed him?

"When I shift," Derrick's voice broke me out of my thoughts, "Don't look into my eyes. At all."

I stared at him in confusion before the wolf suddenly jumped towards me. Derrick shifted swiftly, jumping in front of me protectively.

"Why are you protecting the slut? She's a rouge!" A small woman shrieked in outrage as she stomped out of the trees.

Derrick growled dangerously low as two wolves lunged for us.

I made a small squeaking sound as I fell to the ground, shielding my head with my hands.

After a few minutes of constant growling and snarling, I felt myself being pressed to the ground. A warm body pressed itself into my back, it's fur tickling my skin.

My wolf purred inside of me, causing the sound to rumble out of my chest as our mate protected us.

The growls and snarls quickly ceased and I felt Pierce shift on top of me.

I looked up, my eyes making contact with Derricks as Pierce helped me to my feet.

Biggest mistake of my life.
