Pierce's Point of View
I watched as Cindy fell to her knees, letting out a sob when she saw what I had done to her truck. Her face fell completely and she looked shattered.
I felt my heart break at the sight, but I knew she deserved it. She needed to feel what I had felt when she had left me a year ago.
"Daddy?" Susie asked from the backseat, causing me to turn in my seat to see her staring at me with sad eyes.
"Yes, Susie?" I watched as her face fell even more when I said her name. I figured Cindy had a nick name she called her and she was used to hearing it.
"You know you just broke Mommy, don't you?" She asked and I had to wonder how she could talk so fluently. It made me wonder what Cindy had been putting into her small brain.
"What do you mean?" I asked turning my gaze to Cindy as she stood to her feet numbly, walking over to her truck and opening the door, leaning in as if she were looking for something.
"Mommy always says that she loves us and that she's sorry for taking us away from you, but she couldn't go back." Susie said. "She said the four most important things in her life were me, Lilly, you and her truck. She said she would die if she lost us all."
I felt my blood run cold at the thought of Cindy dying, but my eyes never strayed from my mate as she slammed the car door shut angrily, her lips pursed as tears streamed freely down her face.
She leaned against the car before falling to the ground and putting her head in her hands, sobs shaking her shoulders.
"Why would she say that?" I asked with a frown.
"Because we were all she had left."
Those several words had me caving instantly, both my wolf and I.
"Mommy would go to her room and cry for hours when I asked about you." Susie said. "She thought I was asleep, but I couldn't go to sleep. I was afraid I would lose my mommy."
And that was my icing on the cake.
I reached for the doors handle, prepared to get out and go and apologize to her for everything, prepared to give her the envelope I had found in her truck, which screamed personal in my mind, but I realized she should of had nothing to hide and I found myself opening the large orange envelope, watching as many other envelopes spilled out onto my lap.
"Mommy never let's anyone touch those." Susie said, causing me to frown in confusion.
I glanced up at Cindy, watching as she dumped everything out of her purse, as if panicking as she looked for something.
I looked back down at the letters, a large frown on my face as I picked up one that was addressed to me, but it had a giant red stamp on it with the word 'Invalid Address' on it, telling me it didn't make it through the postal office for some odd reason.
I opened the envelope and pulled out the piece of paper decorated in Cindy's hand writing. The date at the top of the page telling me it was sent out less than six months ago.
And, even though I knew they were probably personal, I read it anyways. It couldn't of been that personal if she had mailed it to me, right?
But I realized how wrong I was as I began reading the letter.
'Hey Pierce,
I don't know why I'm writing this. I know you are probably not going to get it anyways, like every other time a damn letter gets sent back to me, but I won't stop until I get a response. I don't give up.
