I waited for my big brother to come back home after some important meeting with the Kou Empire. Slowly I paced the halls of the large palace I lived in. My name is Sindri, first princess of the Sindria Kingdom. My brother is none other than the infamous King of Sindria, Sinbad. He named his kingdom after me, thinking it would lessen my dislike for him. He failed.
I was waiting for him because he had asked me to wait for him the night before. If he had not asked me I would be sound asleep by now. I was about to give up and go to sleep when I heard my name being shouted in the distance. I guess big brother is home.
"Siiiiiiiiiinnndriiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!" I hear my idiot brother shout once again. I roll my eyes and walk over to the balcony. Coming in on a flying carpet was Sinbad and four of his eight generals. They landed and Sinbad jumped up to hug me, I dodged him and he fell on the ground. He was clearly drunk.
"Sin, pull yourself together!" Reprimanded Ja'far as he pulled Sinbad to his feet. Yamihara suddenly came forward and hugged me tight, she seemed sad. I shrugged her off and put my hands on my hips.
"What is going on? Stop hugging me!" I shouted. Sharrkan came up to me and put his hand on my shoulder, he was very sober and solemn. I slapped his hand away and was about to shriek in frustration when Ja'far sighed.
"I think we better talk inside." He said as he led us all inside. Once inside I plopped down on a cushion and crossed my arms. Everyone else but Sinbad stood. They seemed nervous and it was driving me crazy.
"Well?!" I exclaimed as I was waiting for them to say whatever they were meaning to say.
"As you know, today we were working out a peace treaty with the Kou Empire. In the treaty they demand a peace offering, a bride for the first prince." Said Ja'far hesitantly.
"What does that have to do me? You could have told me in the morning instead of making me stay up late." I huffed, feeling very annoyed.
"You don't understand. Only someone from the royal family can be eligible for this role. There are only two in the royal family, Sinbad and...you."
Ja'far's words sunk into my brain after a few seconds. I was going to be a peace offering to Kou from Sindria. I was going to be a sacrificial bride for peace.
"HELL NO!!!" I shouted as I stood up.
"Sorry, the treaty has already been signed. They'll come for you in the morning." Said Yamihara sadly.
"Don't I get a say in this?!" I shouted as I put my hands to my chest.
"No. I have already signed the treaty, backing out would be an act of war, and sending someone else would be an insult to the Kou Empire." Said Sinbad as he got up, suddenly sober. I froze and clenched my fists. All of my hate for my brother churned in a ball at the core of my stomach. I turned and faced Sinbad.
"Who the hell gave you the right to do this to me?" I seethed.
"Mother gave me the right when she died." He responded calmly.
"She told you take care of me! Not to marry me off to some man for your own interest!" I screamed. Tears came to my eyes as I turned to run away. Masur gabbed me by my arms and stopped me.
"It is for the interest of Sindria and all of her citizens." He said hoping to put some sense in me. I wanted to scream 'Fuck Sindria' but I knew that would get me in more trouble. I took deep breaths and calmed myself. Masur let go of me and I straightened my clothes.
"If you would all excuse me, I need to go pack." I whispered as I walked away, never once looking back.
