"You're an asshole, but I love you."
"And you make me so mad I ask myself, why I'm still here, or where could I go?"
"No one else can break my heart like you."

Tommy did not text her until very late that night, and the text was so infuriating, Penny didn't bother answering and instead spent the rest of the night fuming.
Toms<3: I didn't mean to forget about your charity stream. I slept in late this morning and was busy all day.
No apology. No asking how the stream went. Just excuses. It was safe to say Penny was pissed. The next morning, seeing no new texts from Tommy, she impulsively called him. All she wanted was for things between them to be back to normal. She'd known him for ages by this point, and she didn't like being mad at him, even if he was in the wrong. Her heart jumped into her throat as the call was answered and a sleepy Tommy filled her phone speaker.
"Penny? It's like, six in the morning. What's up?"
"'What's up' is that you've been pissing me off lately." Penny said as calmly as she could manage, which wasn't very.
(Do not attack Penny for being mad. She is not being unreasonable.)
"Hm? How so?"
It seemed it only took the one sentence from Penny for Tommy to sober up and lose the foggy haze of sleep as he realized the situation was serious.
"Well first you missed my charity stream. That in itself isn't really the main issue, though. I was concerned because you didn't respond to the text I sent you. And when you did actually reply, it was gauge and frustrating."
Penny wouldn't admit the concern that had began creeping in as the day had progressed.
"I was quite literally never by my phone yesterday. I had to take some college exams in the afternoon and my phone was off and away. I will admit that I forgot about your stream, though." Tommy explained, though Penny heard the beginning of some irritation creeping into his words.
Penny considered getting mad right back. It wasn't as if they'd never had an actual argument before, but it usually left her feeling guilty and shattered inside, and she knew the guilt would eat her and Tommy alive, so she changed her tune instead.
"Hey, Tom." She softened her voice. "I don't want to fight. I just needed an explanation. I'm sorry for forgetting about your exams."
Tommy also softened.
"No, I...It's my fault for forgetting. I'm sorry."
"As long as we can be okay again."
"Of course."
They didn't start talking again. There was no quip about the situation, no playing it off with humour or changung the topic to something more comfortabke. They instead sat in a comfortable silence, both realizing that was still early in the morning. Penny, filled with peace now, felt her eyes get heavy and she fell asleep.
