Aiah's PoV
I aimed at the target, and with full confidence, I released the arrow from my bow. Bull's eye. I felt proud and contented but my happiness disappeared when I saw Henry, the assistant coach of Coach Marshall didn't pay attention at all. I knew what he'll say.
"Everybody, please take a break. Be back after an hour while you, Aiah, stay. I want to see the position of your fingers when you release the arrow. Be ready, I'll just go and buy drinks." Henry said in front of the whole Archery athletes.
My jaw almost dropped when I heard him, while I saw Ruby grinning from ear to ear. Seriously? How could he missed it? I was on the verge of walking out of the room but I was just thinking of Coach Marshall's sake. Coach Marshall was a very stern trainer, he'll really push you at your limit but at the end of the day, you knew at the back of your mind that you learn something new, it was just an unfortunate incident that his older sister died from an accident and he had to go back on his hometown, but I was wondering why did Coach Marshall left an important job to someone like Henry? Something was not right.
It just I felt that I'm wasting my time here asking myself why did I ever agreed to practice without Coach Marshall? We're at the Sports Center, inside the Archery Training room, and I've been practicing for the last few days, and it was pure hell. Henry was so lousy, that I even knew for myself I'm better without him while Ruby and her skanks were giving me deadly stares throughout the practice. The worst of all? I'm missing someone. I was too strained to pull another one, in fact, my hands were already shaking.
Don't get me wrong. Archery is my life but this situation really frustrates me. I just want this competition to be done and over with.
Without a word, I aimed at a target and tried pulling the string.
"You'll just hurt your hand. Better stop now." I was a little surprised when I heard someone from behind. i though I was all alone in the room when Henry left. I paid no attention to him, thinking he was just an observer.
I knew he was looking at me and I didn't know why I felt a little conscious. I focused again on the target in front of me, not minding the pain I'm feeling right now. I'll just put some cold compress to it later, so it couldn't be that bad, right? I positioned the arrow, took a deep breath before releasing it, but I was taken aback when felt a sharp searing pain on my fingers when I released the arrow. This was the first time that it happened to me. Dammit. The shot was nowhere near perfect, not even a good one. I blamed myself for being too arrogant, I knew that my hand was already in bad shape yet I kept on going.
"Here, this would help." The guy from earlier stepped in front of me and held my hand. My eyes almost popped in surprise when I saw his hand holding mine.
"Hey!" I shouted. A total stranger was holding my hand, how couldn't I be freaked out? I shot him a deadly glare which he just return with a grin. I tried to pull my hand away from him, not caring if I'm my hand's hurting, but he just held it tightly. Who the hell was this guy? How could he just held my hand as if he knew me? Maybe, he's some kind of a pervert. His thumb made circular motion on my hand while I was still fighting to take my hand away from him, while my other hand was locked in his side.
"Who the hell are you? How dare you hold my hand? Do I know you? Are you a pervert? You won't get away with this so release my hand know before I knock you out." I was panting my breath due to exasperation and exhaustion on this guy. When I'm through talking, he was laughing making me more irritated.
"Stop resisting because you'll just hurt yourself. I'm not a bad person, I'm just concerned with you. With a skill like yours, it would be a total waste if you weren't able to join the competition just because you're stubborn. Now, stop wriggling and just stay put, okay?" His eyes were staring at mine, and just like Gael, this man was surely oozing with charm.
I stared at him while his face was still focused on my hand, I found him handsome, almost as handsome as Gael. His hands were soft, I even thought that his hands were softer than mine, just like Gael's. Heck! why am I comparing him with Gael?! When he found that I was staring at him, a grin was formed on his lips. He stopped massaging my hand, but he was still holding it. I immediately pulled my hand away from him.
"Just take a rest, okay? You owe me a beer for my service." The nerve of this guy! I never asked him to do that kind of thing to me in the first place, but when I glanced at my palm, I knew I should even say a simple "thank you" to him.
"Hey you! What's your name?" I shouted when I found him walking towards the door, leaving the room.
He turned to face me, and smiled.
*******
The next thing I knew was Gael furiously walked towards Henry and clenched Henry's shirt. He noticed my arm was hurt because of too much fatigue and because of it, he was very furious with Henry. I calmed him down, and because of the incident, I forgot to tell him about...
*******
"You're Aiah, right? I heard it from the guy who you can beat in Archery but training you earlier. Weird, right?" He was grinning from ear to ear.
"I'm asking you. Who are you?"
"You just want my number."
"In your dreams."
"Why do you want to know my name? So you can stalk me at Twitter or IG?" Hah! This man knew how to piss every single cell in my body.
"I just wanted to say thanks." He was stunned for a while, maybe not expecting that I'll be so honest and sincere in saying thanks to him. His grin was swiped off in his face, and maybe I was really tired at the moment, because I thought I saw him smile.
"I'm Spence."
