I pushed open the car door and stepped out.
The tall building stood in front of me, its glass reflecting the sunlight, blindingly bright. But I couldn’t care less about the view. My feet moved before I even fully registered what I was doing.
I walked straight through the entrance.
"Adhvik Oberoi." The name burnt on my tongue as I watched the receptionist take my appearance for a second.
She looked like as young as me, not that old at work either.
"You got an appointment?" She plastered the smile over her face and I shook my head before uttering a no.
Her expression twitched. “Then you’ll have to wait. He’s in an important conferen—”
I didn’t hear the rest. My legs were already moving, striding past her.
"Ma’am, where are you going?!" Her voice raised behind me. I didn’t slow.
I stabbed the elevator button.
"Security!"
I didn’t hear her.
I didn’t care.
I just stepped in and let the doors close.
Everything felt like a haze—my heart pounding in my chest, the adrenaline rushing through my veins, making my limbs move faster than my mind could catch up.
As soon as the elevator doors slid open, I didn't pause or hesitate, I stepp out. But soon, two guards tried grabbing at my arms, pulling me back.
I wrenched myself away with a force I hadn’t known I had in me.
“You don’t touch me!” I shouted sharply, stumbling back from their hold.
My elbow hit a table, knocking over a vase that shattered against the floor. The sound echoed through the hallway, making my pulse spike.
A number of gasped echoed throughout the staff in sync but it didn’t stop me.
I kept walking.
Straight toward the conference room.
I wasn’t thinking.
I wasn’t processing.
It was like I was on autopilot—like everything in me had snapped.
Breaking through like this was something I'd never do. I was a rules pleaser. But that man had literally fucked up my mind at the moment.
I couldn’t go back now, not after everything.
“Ma’am, stop right there!” The shout rang out, but it was too late.
I shoved the conference room door open with a force that was almost violent.
And then, it was just the sound of my breaths, in the silence.
A room full of eyes, all turning toward me. The weight of their gazes hit me all at once.
I could feel the tension in the air, thick and suffocating.
The eyes all locked onto me, some confused, some startled, but most of them landed on one person.
The one person who had pushed me to this point.
Adhvik.
My hands crawled into fists as soon as my eyes locked onto the most extraordinary pairs.
