Everything was silent.

Too silent.

The kind of silence that didn't just fill the house - it crawled under your skin and pressed against your skull.

As if sound had been sucked out of the world and replaced with something darker.

My parents' house.

Strange how fast rage could creep in. My knuckles had turned white before I even reached the living room.

My jaw felt like it will break any second from the pressure as I passed through the living room, where someone sat on the couch.

Rage was good.
Rage kept me alive.

"I'll call you later." Yuvaansh ended his call the second he saw me. His sharp gaze hooked on me, but I didn't slow down. Didn't acknowledge him.

He wasn't even air to me.

"Where were yo-" His words hung in the air as I walked past.

"I called you multiple times!" he shouted at my back.

I didn't stop until I reached the washroom. Tap on. Water rushing. Hands under. I rubbed at the faint red stains clinging to my skin.

Not mine.

Hers.

And that was the problem.

Her blood had no business being on me unless I put it there. And yet here I was, washing it away, like some coward who'd borrowed someone else's mistake.

My eyes lifted to the mirror. The reflection wasn't mine tonight-it was something feral, sharp, and hungry.
Unlike me. Nowhere controller.

My gaze slid down to my pocket.

The rose.

It was still there. Still marked. A stupid flower with her blood on its thorns.

The root of everything.
