On the way to the open house, your leg was shaking- like insanely shaking. Ethan noticed it while driving and set a hand on your thigh.

"Calm down, baby it'll be fine" he said, his voice annoyingly soothing. "Easy for you to say. You don't have a mystery inside of you." You say back picking at your nails. What would you do if you were pregnant? You just gave daisy back- getting pregnant seemed hypocritical almost.

You were quiet for the rest of the drive, you got quiet when you were nervous or worried. Ethan noticed but didn't say anything just turned the music on the radio up as you guys drove to the house.

Arriving to this huge house you looked at Ethan then back at the house. "Ethan is this in our price range?" You asked while unbuckling. He chuckled and nodded. "Yes, double checked."

You guys stepped out of the car and started walking to the house. It had a wrap around driveway with beautiful flowers and trees. It looked like it was straight out of a pintrest boards

The front door opened with a soft creak, and for a second you just stood there. The house was... quiet. Not empty in a bad way—just calm. Like it had never seen anything bad happen inside it.

Ethan stepped in first, looking around slowly. "Okay... yeah," he muttered, almost impressed.

You followed him in, your hand still unconsciously hovering near your stomach. You hated that you were doing that.

"Don't say 'okay yeah' like that," you said, trying to sound normal. "That's how people act when they're about to get murdered in horror movies or or something crazy will happen."

Ethan laughed under his breath. "Baby, the only thing in here is hardwood floors and expensive counters."

You glanced around again. The living room was huge, way too big compared to what you were used to. Big windows. Open kitchen. A staircase that made you feel like you should be walking slower for no reason.

Rose would love it.

That thought softened something in your chest.

Ethan squeezed your hand. "You okay?"

You nodded too fast. "Yeah. Just... thinking."

"About the test?"

You didn't answer right away.

"...no."

He didn't push. He just pulled you a little closer as you walked. Upstairs, you checked the rooms one by one. One for Rose. One spare. One that could be anything later. The idea of "later" felt weirdly heavy.

At the end of the hallway, you opened a door and stopped.

It was a bedroom with big windows facing the backyard. Sunlight spilled across the floor like it belonged there.

Ethan stepped in behind you. "This one's ours?"

You let out a small breath. "This one feels like... nothing bad has ever happened here."

Ethan nodded slowly. "That's kind of the point."

Silence sat between you two for a moment.

Then you laughed a little, even though your chest still felt tight. "We're really about to buy a house while I might be pregnant. That's- I don't know insane."

Ethan leaned his shoulder against the doorframe. "We've had worse timing." You looked at him. "That is not comforting."

He smiled. "It's honest."

And somehow... that helped more.
