The rest of the tour felt like a blur.
Ethan was asking questions and talking to the realtor but you couldn't focus on the house anymore. The house was huge -
Not Romania huge- not baker huge
A new start huge.
And that terrified you. You had no clue why it did but it did.
Ethan somehow loved the house everytime you two entered a room. By the time you two entered the living room you can see it. He was mentally moving in.
You caught him staring out one of the windows with a look he only gets when he has already decided something without involving you.
"Ethan."
"Hm?" He turned towards you, that stupid look still plastered on his face.
"What are your thoughts?" You asked putting your phone into your pocket. He looked around and then turned towards you. "I really really love it y/n, it feels like home. There's room to grow yea but- it feels like us?" He said dusting off the window sill.
You sighed and nodded. The realtor came into the room with a clipboard. "So! Is this the one?" She asked with a smile on her face that looked rehearsed. "Can we talk about it first?" You asked and she nodded and left giving you two privacy to speak.
The second she walked out of the room Ethan looked at you.
You looked back.
Neither of you said anything for a few seconds.
Then-
"You want it."
Ethan pointed at you. "You want it too!"
You narrowed your eyes and turned towards hide your smile. "That's not my point Ethan."
"That most definitely is the point." He said back, you rolled your eyes. "No, the point is we're potentially buying a house while I'm potentially pregnant."
Ethan blinked "well when you say it like that it sounds irresponsible."
"Yea because it is Ethan- this is a big change especially for rose. She's only lived in small apartments and the one time we had a huge house it got shot up because of Miranda. I'm just- I'm scared. I'm scared something will happen in here and it'll be a waste of our money."
Ethan's expression softened immediately.
"Baby..."
You looked away from him.
"I'm serious, Ethan. Every time we get comfortable something happens. Louisiana happened. The village happened. Every time I think things are finally normal, they aren't."
The words came out faster than you meant them to.
"What if we buy this house and something happens? What if we're happy for five minutes and then it all gets ripped away again?"
The room went quiet.
Ethan stepped closer.
"Y/n."
You hated how gentle his voice was.
Because it made your eyes sting.
"I can't promise nothing bad will ever happen again."
You let out a weak laugh.
"Not exactly the speech I wanted."
He smiled a little.
"I know."
He reached for your hand.
"But I can promise you won't face it alone."
Your eyes dropped to your intertwined fingers.
