Dan grinned, pulling out a sharpie to put someone's order on a cup. As of now, he had a job at Starbucks with his friends, Louise, Chris, and PJ. It honestly was a horrendously boring job, even though it was popular. Dan just hated putting orders on a cup and taking money from people. As cheesy as it sounds, his friends made it better.

Dan's eighteen birthday was in a day, and he was extremely excited. He would finally see what his soulmate said to him. All of his friends already turned eighteen and knew their soulmate or was close to it. Although, to be fair, you never actually know when your soulmate will come to you. Dan's would hopefully come soon.

Louise nudged Dan, pulling him back into reality. Dan raised his eyebrows and nodded.

"D'you want to go to the movies with all of us on Sunday?" She asked, pulling out a cup and tossing it to him. Dan nodded and grinned, happy to have something to do. A customer walked into the store and Dan looked up. He groaned, not happy to take more orders. This would be a long day.

-

Dan woke up, and groaned as he realized it was morning. Then he remembered it was his birthday and his eyes popped open as he finally woke up. He checked his phone and saw texts from his friends saying happy birthday. He smiled and decided he should get ready for the day.

Dan started eating breakfast. He hurried up and took a shower, hoping he wouldn't be late for work. It was when he was brushing his teeth as his wrist started to itch and burn. He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to ignore the pain, but it soon became unbearable. He scratched at his wrist and hissed through his teeth. He blinked and started to notice that words were appearing on his wrist. He squinted and raised his eyebrows. He was getting his tattoo.

Dan walked into work with a smile on his face. Louise seemed to notice his change in mood. She looked at him, confused, and laughed. Dan showed her his wrist and she gasped.

"What is that supposed to mean?" She wondered. Dan shrugged, because in all honesty, he had no idea what it was supposed to mean either.

"Why shouldn't I? How are you supposed to interpret that?" She exclaimed. Dan shrugged again and laughed as Louise hugged him.

"Whatever. Happy birthday, Dan." She grinned, patting his back as they got to work. Customers started lining up with laptops and bags as they got their coffee. Dan was already tired and he had barely started. Dan rolled his eyes as he finally got to go on his lunch break with Chris.

The boys ended up going to a pizza place at the end of the street. They both ordered the traditional cheese pizza and sat down in a booth.

"So, Dan. What does your wrist say?" Chris asked, taking a sip of his Coke and grinning at Dan. Dan smiled at him and showed him his wrist. Chris laughed.

"Ohhh, one of those confusing ones, eh?" He grinned, folding his arms and leaning back in his seat. Dan shrugged. Usually, people's soulmates say something easy to interpret. Something like, 'Oops! Sorry!" or 'Didn't see you there." Others had extremely easy ones that anyone could say to you. Some people even got the names of their soulmate on their wrist. Dan's was just more unique.

As soon as the boys finished their food, they went back to work. Dan's eyes were drawn to a person in the corner booth. He had black hair and the palest skin Dan has ever seen. He was captivating, to say the least. All throughout the day, Dan stared at him, not mustering up the courage to actually speak to him. After all, he was a stranger, and what good did those give you?

-

Soon enough, it was closing time, and Dan was the one who had to close up. The beautiful stranger was still there, and Dan was afraid to throw him out. He felt bad, but was his paycheck on the line. He tapped the man on the shoulder. He turned around and Dan gasped.

"Er- I mean, uh, don't stay too long," He stuttered, "Sorry. It's, um, time to close up. Don't, er, linger." He said, and cringed. Linger? What did he think he was, some sort of animal? The stranger smiled at him.

"Why shouldn't I?" He asked, smirking slightly. Dan's eyes widened as he looked down at him wrist. He looked back up at the stranger and grinned.

"I think you're my soulmate." Dan muttered. The man looked excited, then confused. He held up his wrist and Dan saw that there was no tattoo.

"Wait, how old are you?" Dan asked.

"Twenty-two." He answered, his eyes boring into Dan's face. Dan's eyebrows arched. The stranger looked confused.

"When I turned eighteen, I never got my tattoo. Some people's come a few days later, so I ignored it. It never came." He added when he saw the look on Dan's face. Dan nodded, and smiled regardless of whether this person was his soulmate or not.

"So, um, will you be back again?" Dan asked as he led the stranger to the door. The man nodded as he started to walk away.

"Wait!" Dan called. The man turned around and smiled as Dan caught up to him.

"I never got your name. I'm Dan." He smiled. The stranger grinned at him.

"Phil. Can I have your number, Dan?" He asked. Dan nodded frantically as he pulled out his phone. Phil and him exchanged numbers and Dan walked Phil home, and Dan never did lock the cafe up.

-

As Dan woke up, it dawned on him that he actually met his soulmate. He grinned and rubbed his eyes, deciding to get up to go to work. Dan couldn't wait until he had his day off.

Once Dan got to work, he instantly noticed that Phil wasn't there. He frowned slightly, but reminded himself that it was early and Phil didn't need to be there immediately. He nodded and began to prepare himself for the busiest day of the week- Saturday.

People lined up at the counter and Dan took order after order. By the end of the day, there was no sign of Phil and Dan was exhausted. He frowned and shook his head. It was time to lock up again. As soon as Dan gathered up his stuff, Phil walked into the room.

"Dan, I'm so sorry. I had such a bad day at work and my boss made me stay-" He babbled, walking up to Dan. Dan cut him off and stumbled into his arms, hugging his tightly. He squeezed his eyes shut and smiled as Phil wrapped his arms around him. Dan pulled away and grinned.

"It's okay. Want a drink?" Dan asked. Phil nodded and smiled at him, walking behind the counter. Dan made them both a cup of coffee and they sat down on the floor.

They ended up leaving at around one in the morning. They had been sat on the floor eating cookies and food. They talked about anything and everything. It was the most fun Dan had had in a long time.

"Tomorrow's my day off. If you wanted to hang out...?" He asked, unsure if Phil did want to hang out. Phil rolled his eyes.

"Of course I don't." He snarled. Dan's eyes widened and he backed away.

"Oh, um, okay. Sorry, I'll just-" Phil cut Dan off by grabbing his cheek and pulling his lips to his own.

"Is this okay?" Phil whispered against his lips. Dan nodded and grinned. Phil pressed his lips against Dan's and closed his eyes.

Dan smiled and grabbed Phil's hand. As they walked away, he couldn't have been happier.
