A couple days later Aria shows up at the store when she's done hanging out with Ezra at Hollis for most of the night. I'm sitting at my desk doing work in my office where she found me slaving away once I closed up for the night. She is on the couch and telling me how Emily found out while she was in the hospital that A spiked the sports cream she was using when her muscles would get sore. This person put steroids into it so that when she'd use the cream it went into her system, and now the doctor's tests show in her chart that she was on drugs. This could lead to her getting kicked off the team if they think she actually was taking this drug to help boost her swimming. As if I didn't think this stalker could get any worse, they go and do this. Emily is now scared to stay in Rosewood more than before and wants her dad to take her with him to Texas. Honestly, I don't blame her and at this point think that would be the safest bet.
On top of that Aria and Spencer had told me how they got themselves into pretending they were working at the hospital to do some detective work (naturally) because they wanted to figure things out about Alison's autopsy. They ended up at the morgue and found info on how she died. She was hit over the head with something, their theory is a field hockey stick because Toby found it buried in the yard of their house bordering the property line for the Hastings and DiLaurentis when he was hired to help build Jason's fence a while back. She continued by saying that the actual cause of death was suffocation, which means she was alive when someone buried her the night she went missing. I'll admit that I hated the girl with a capital H, but to suffocate to death is one of my worst fears and I can't even imagine how she felt while going through that.
"That's a lot of information to process." I had my attention on her the whole time instead of my computer, so my body is turned to her on my desk chair.
She gives a small smile and nods as she's leaned back onto the couch, "I know. I didn't expect it either."
I take a breath and take off my glasses to rub my face before putting them back on, hating that she gets herself into messes. "I'm glad you guys got some answers, but you really need to stop going too far. You know it'll bite you in the ass. It's happened before."
She gives me a look. It is almost like the next thing she is about to say would prove my point and now I know something is going on.
"Oh, God. What now?"
She presses her lips together, "Em, Spencer and Hanna kind of ended up back at the morgue this morning to return Ali's file. But there was a page missing and now they don't know where it is."
Emily was released from the hospital yesterday and the fact she went straight into an A mess already is crazy. So I give her such a disappointed look and lean deeper into my chair, "Ria..."
"I know. I know." She says it quickly, "They got scared."
"Well obviously." I emphasize hard on the last word, "You guys do something illegal and never think what can happen after."
"You know once Spencer puts her mind to something she won't stop."
I nod with an annoyed look, "Oh I know. She has gotten herself into deep shit more than once. The Ian situation should have been the most obvious reason to stop."
She gives me a sad look and sighs slightly, "Trust me. That is imprinted in my brain forever."
I nod slowly, "We need to get Spencer to stop going too far in this witch hunt. She's going to get into serious trouble. Or even killed. I can't handle losing anyone else."
Her eyes soften more, because even after all these months without my family it's still not easy to process or talk about. I even know she still hasn't processed it fully after a couple months of knowing. But I know she can see my wheels turning. "You won't lose us."
