By the time lunch comes around the girls are acting weird. Or weirder than usual. They are all hanging at a table, eating the food they bought from the cafeteria and talking. I'm still in line with Mona, waiting to get my own lunch. Then when we're done she ushers me over to their table, which confuses me considering she doesn't really like the girls other than Hanna of course. But I guess it's because they are Hanna's friends and she's giving them the benefit of the doubt. I wish she had done that with Andrew before we got into that huge argument at Sean's party. The fact it took that to make her see the good in him and the bad way of her actions was uncalled for.
"Mona I don't know." I say when she pulls me along with her arm looped through mine, knowing that they are probably talking about A, or Jenna and Ian, or all of the above.
During one of our classes Aria told me that they found Jenna by herself in the music class and went to talk to her. Jenna explained that Alison had found the video the summer she went missing and had gone to see her to rub it in her face that she had it. They seemed to be hiding something though, because the way they spoke felt as if they were keeping pieces out of their story. However, I didn't argue because I promised not to pry too hard into this knowing that things could get worse for me knowing too much.
Mona gives me a small smile, "Hanna needs us. She's been so down since Caleb left. It's best to have all of her friends to support her."
I take a breath, half smiling back at her. "Okay...fine. You're right."
A nice thought and gesture from Mona turned into all four of the girls getting to their feet seconds later and leaving, making Mona wonder what happened while I know that it had to do with their stalker. But that didn't last long because then we notice that Hanna left her phone behind when it rings and Mona grabs it.
"What are..." I'm not able to finish that sentence because she answers it. So I just groan a bit because I don't see the need to answer a call that doesn't involve her.
"Caleb, I'm glad you called." She says, talking to him for a bit and explains that things with Hanna weren't going to work because Hanna threw away a letter he gave her and that he should just lose her number. Then it seems like he hangs up on her, "Hello?"
I half laugh in annoyance, "Did you expect differently when you practically made fun of him by saying Hanna threw away a letter he wrote to her?"
"Well, he needed to know." She says with a shrug, "Give him the hint she wants nothing to do with him."
I roll my eyes a bit, knowing that she did it more out of spite to make a point that she still has a hold of her friends in a way. "I think she still cares for him. Why else would she be mopey?"
"Because everyone is mopey after a break up, Jessie." Then her eyes shift upward, making me turn to look at her sudden distraction.
I smile when I see it's Lucas, "Hey." I say with an upbeat tone.
He looks at me and smiles back, but seems distracted. "Hey, Jessie."
"Can we help you, Hermi?" Mona says in a rude tone.
I turn myself to her right away, "Mona, what the hell is your problem?"
She half laughs and gets to her feet, "You know we don't associate with his kind, Jessie."
I shake my head, watching her and then Lucas before staring back to her. "First of all. There is no such thing as 'kinds of people', we've been through this plenty of times."
"Well it seems as if it doesn't get through your thick skull."
"And I plan to keep this thick skull, because Lucas is my friend regardless of what you think."
