I've been a reporter for 3 years. I've reported some crazy things along through this ride, but I never expected something like this.
-----
It's 12:47pm on Wednesday October, 7th. It's raining outside, I'm sitting at my desk, playing some random game that is on my computer. Clicking the mouse aimlessly and not really paying attention to the game.
"Deanna!" I hear my boss yell. "Come to my office, please." I slide my chair back and walk away from my desk. I open the door to his office.
"Yes sir. What do you need?" I ask while putting my hands down in front of me. He leans back in his chair and puts his hands on his lap
"There have been some reports of hearing a disturbance. People around the area have been calling in to see if we could figure it out and have the noise stop. So, we are sending you to go figure it out. Okay?"
He stares me down. I'm not really sure if I could do this, it's more of a police situation but I'm getting sick of sitting at my desk every day. I never get any cases to report on anymore. I just confirm the article and send them off. I'll take this and hope to actually be able to do something for once.
"Yeah, I'll take this sir." I say
"Okay good, everyone here is doing something and you haven't been doing anything productive lately. You can do this, if anything looks suspicious or if you see anything try and take pictures for the report. Alright. Here's the address." He slips me a piece of paper. "Hope to see a good report." I nodded and left the office.
I make my way to my deck and grab my phone, keys, wallet, camera, notepad, and the address. I grab my coat and throw it on. I walk out of the building allowing the cool, crisp air hit me as I left the warm office. I made my way to my car and hopped in. I turned the car on and turned the heated and put some tunes on. I let The Beatles flow out of the speakers at a low volume but you can still hear the words.
I turn on my GPS and put the address in and let it find the route. Once it finds the route, it says I have an hour 17 minutes. I'm not gonna question it; I need to get out of the office. I pull out of the parking lot and turn left onto the main road. I go to an exit and go onto the highway. Staying in the right lane having cars on my left pass me at speeds that are greater than mine.
Rain beings to falls around me and the wipers are going across the windshield. Driving down the highway, thinking about the case, I began to wonder. As in, what types of noises? Screaming? Yelling? Items smashing? I didn't ask him, which I should have asked. I'll find out when I ask people that surround the neighboring houses.
I turned off the highway after about 45 minutes of driving on the long stretch of road. I bear right onto a vacant road; the road is dark and is surrounded by dense woods. Due to the lack of streetlights, I turn my high beams on. I look at my GPS and its says that I have 32 more minutes left to drive, there are occasionally a couple houses here and there. I slowed down when I heard the GPS say
"You have reached your destination."
I try to look at the houses but is too blurry to see any of the house numbers due to the rain. So I put all my stuff in a carry-on bag and made a dash to a house. As I approach the house I check the number on it and make sure it's not the actual house that is getting called on. I knock on the door and wait for a response. I was about to knock again but then the door opens up to a woman in casual clothing, which consists of sweatpants and a large sweatshirt and her long light brown hair tied up in a messy bun. She looks surprised by my arrival, I mean who wouldn't. You practically live in the middle of nowhere and it's now pouring out and someone knocks on your door around 1:30 in the afternoon.
