Vaani’s heart was pounding harder than ever .. not just with fear that Anya might never forgive her for believing the world’s lies, but also with the crushing awkwardness of meeting the girl who had once been her home... after eleven long years.
She halted mid-step, clutching Nirvaan’s hand tighter.
"Nir..." she whispered, her voice trembling.
He turned to her, confused.
"Kya hua?"
(What happened?)
"Nir... voh... mujhe... darr lag raha hai... Anya... ma-"
(Nir... I... I'm scared... Anya... she-)
Before she could finish, Nirvaan’s eyes softened. Without a word, he pulled her into a tender hug .. a soft, delicate embrace that carried more comfort than any words could.
"Idhar dekho," he murmured, tilting her face up gently.
(Look here.)
She rested her chin on his chest, looking up at him, her heart beating furiously against his chest.
"I know it’s hard... but try to stay calm, hmm? I'm right here. Always," he said, his voice a soothing balm to her frayed nerves.
She closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his forehead kiss, a silent promise that no matter how broken she felt, she wasn’t alone.
"V... Vaani," a voice called out.
Vaani froze.
The voice was unfamiliar... and yet, her heart knew.
Slowly, she turned ..and there he stood.
Reeyansh.
But he was no longer the boy she remembered.
He was a man now..
taller, broader, with a gravity in his eyes that life had carved into him.
Had she passed him on the street, she might not have even recognized him. And yet, in this moment, every piece of her soul screamed home.
