Krystal's POV
"This apartment is different from the ones I've showed you before. It has two master bedrooms and each has its own bathroom. The living room separates both and the kitchen is set on the other side of the living room," the Realtor says.
I look around the place, that is suppose to be my home for the next few years but they all looked the same to me. Now that I was here, I wasn't ready for this and I wanted to go home.
"Sweetie, what do you think?" My mother asked.
"Its nice, just like the other ones," I shrug.
"Mija, we gotta pick one, " she tells me.
"I'll give you two a moment to talk it over, " the lady says dismissing herself.
I nod and look to my mom, the one that seemed okay with all of this.
"So, are you going to tell me what's wrong o que (or what)?" My mom flatly said.
"Nothing is wrong," I tell her.
"Okay, we're taking this place," she tells and turns on her heels.
"How could you just take the money?" I burst.
My mother stopped in her tracks and stood there for a moment. She turned to face me and her expression was flat.
"It was mine and I earned it, " she said hallowly.
"It's blood money!" I shout.
"Baja la voz (keep your voice down)," my mother snapped.
I reel back and take a deep breath and say, "Salazar left you that money."
"But it's what I earned and I'm using it for something good," she justified.
We stayed quiet for a moment and my mother speaks, "We all have a past mija and I had to fight through mine. I did a lot of shit to survive and to keep you from falling into my footsteps. So yes, it is blood money but I'm using it on you, for you to get away from the barrio and to make something of yourself."
I stood there speechless and utterly stunned. My mother rarely spoke of her past and at times I did wonder if she ever did anything close to what the guys and Jessie did.
"I'm sorry mom," I say defeated.
"Ma'am, we'll take it," she said ignoring my apology.
My mother walked over to the realtor and started on the paperwork, not sparing another word to me.
"I guess home sweet home, " I mumble.
*******
"So when are you going to call Jessie?" My mother asked for the millionth time.
"I don't know!" I snap.
"You need to do it soon," she retorts unphased by my attitude.
I let out a ragged breath and finally decide to call her.
I was nervous as hell and terrified. I was never good at goodbyes and I knew I should have told her before I left but, I knew I wouldn't have left.
I dialed her number and waited anxiously as it rang.
"Hello?" I hear an unfamiliar voice answer.
"Umm, hi...is Jessie there?" I asked hesitantly.
"She's busy right now, can she call you back?" The raspy voice says.
I felt my heart sink to the pit of my stomach but I just ignored the feeling and say, "yeah, just let her know kryst....."
Before I could finish what I had to say, the line went dead and I was left there with words in my mouth.
"ya ablastes con ella (you talk to her already)?" My mother asked.
All I could do was shake my head and walked off in the direction to my new room.
***************
I'm so sorry for the long wait and such a short chapter! :(
Shame on me ):
But the next one will be up soon and I've also been working on the sequel so that's another reason for my delay.
Well, as always enjoy and much love! ^-^
